Aqualabel Review – Whitening (Blue) Series (+Giveaway!)

Now that we’ve covered the Moisturising (red) series, let’s move on to the Whitening (blue) products shall we?

It is a powerful and holistic range of whitening products that focuses on repairing and preventing pigmentation problems, and it brightens your skin’s overall clarity.

Key Ingredients in this range of products include:

  1. M-tranexamic Acid
It targets the root of pigmentation problems by inhibiting melanocytes from producing over-active melanin, soothes acne inflammation, and is a powerful whitening ingredient used in Shiseido’s White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum(which has like 3 stamps of approval from me and is incredibly expensive!)
  2. Saxifrage & Peony Extracts
It has whitening ingredients to improve overall facial clarity.
Saxifrage extracts maintains skin complexion by hampering the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme that catalyses the production of melanin and other pigments by oxidation (it is the same enzyme that causes potato slices to turn dark when exposed to air) and Peony extracts contains an exfoliating ingredient which prevents dead skin cells and melanin buildup on skin surface.
  3. Aqua Synergy
An exclusive ingredient, which blends water and oil so that they can sink + force moisture and effective ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin layers.
  4. Moist Aqua Keeping Base
This ingredient itself is a mixture of 4 ingredients:
    a. Moisture Membrane, which locks moisture in skin
    b. Double Hyaluronic Acid, which was patented by Shiseido (it just ended) which is highly moisturising and enhances skin’s elasticity
    c. Biocompatible Hydrating Liquid; it repleneishes skin, and lastly,
    d. more Aqua Synergy goodness to help ingredients penetrate into skin more effectively!

#1 – Deep Clear Oil Cleansing

Oil based make up remover, to remove all types and traces of make up, especially waterproof make up which goes off easily. Also deep cleanses to unclog pores by thoroughly remove sebum plugs in skin [refer to pic] and exfoliates away dead skin cells + excess melanin for better clarity. Doesn’t strip the skin of moisture and contains Moist Aqua Keeping Base.

Size: 150ml
Price: SGD $18.50

Review: I tried this on the other half of my face using a cotton pad + cotton bud, and it really works quite well to remove my make up, especially my Dollywink Eyeliner. A little oily for my preference as I usually prefer products with lesser or no oil to remove my make up. Pump bottle is convenient!

#2 – White Clear Foam

It instantly brightens up skin by removing impurities, dead skin cells and unwanted melanin thoroughly. Contains white clay powder, and has granules containing Hyaluronic Acid Formulation (it bursts!) to remove surface corneal cells that have become coarse from UV damage. Moist Aqua Keeping Base ensures that it does not strip the skin of moisture.

* White clay powder is natural snow white clay collected from deep under ground in the Province of Turin, Italy and processed into microscopic granular particles.

* Granules containing Hyaluronic Acid Formulation are skin-friendly granules made with soft solidifying powder that releases Hyaluronic Acid into the skin when you massage it onto your face

Size: 130g
Price: SGD $16.90

Review: We didn’t get to try this as there was no basin for us to clean up, but I’m very very interested to try it out after reading the products specs. Would love to compare this to Shiseido’s Perfect Whip cleansing foam. What about you?

#3 – White Up Lotion S/R

It targets the root of spots and pigmentation by soothing skin inflammation near it, and inhibits excessive malanin production with M-tranexamic acid. Brightens the skin from within by removing dead skin cells and excess melanin with Saxifrage and Peony extracts. Skin is instantly plumped up by infusing it with moisture with the help of Moist Aqua Keeping Base.

Comes in S/R versions,
S – Supple, for Normal to combi/oily skin
R – Rich, for normal to dry/dehydrated skin as it contains more moisturising ingredients and is richer in texture.

Size: 130g
Price: SGD $26.90

Review: Like this a lot too, pleasant rose fragrance, does not sting. Can’t say much about the whitening effect as I’ve not been using this long enough, but really leaves skin soft, supple and moisturized. : )

#4 – White Up Emulsion S/R

Soothes skin with t-ranexamic acid and also has Saxifrage & Peony extracts to brighten skin from within. It replenishes the skin with sufficient amounts of moisture and locks in moisture with Moist Aqua Keeping Base.

Texture of the S version:

Also comes in the S/R (Supple/Rich) range for normal/oily and normal/dehydrated skin respectively.

This is the R version:

Size: 130ml
Price: SGD $29.90

Review: It is well absorbed into the skin, especially if you use the lotion before this and it doesn’t leave a sticky finish behind even with the R (rich) version. They are lightweight enough, and yet keeps my skin well moisturised!

#5 – Aqua Enhancer WT

This product has a special infusion skincare step. It forces essential ingredients into deep layers of your skin with high concentrations of Aqua Synergy. All skincare ingredients are effectively and maximally absorbed with immediate results! This should be used as the last step of day/night skincare routine. Dab a sufficient amount onto a cotton pad, and apply onto skin in a patting (not swiping!) motion to lock in all the skincare ingredients from the previous steps.

It has also been selected as a star product in Cosmopolitan China Beauty Awards 2007.

Size: 130ml
Price: SGD $26.90

Review: I quite liked the idea of having an extra step to “lock in” all the moisture after applying the emulsion, and I’ve been using this quite regularly! Sink x Saturate x Seal! My skin loves it.

From here on, if you’re staying home, please follow steps #6, #7 and #8.
If you’re headed out, do read on for products on #9, #10, #11 and #12.

#6 – White Up Cream (Night use)

*** Use this before Aqua Enhancer ***

It promotes microcirculation, and enhances the skin’s natural functions while the skin undergoes cell renewal at night with Glucosyl Hesperidin. Contains m-tranexamic acid to soothe inflammation, Saxifrage and Peony extracts which hampers the activity of the enzyme tyrosinase and prevents stratification of the stratum corneum respectively. Moist Aqua Keeping Base replenishes the skin with sufficient amounts of moisture and locks it in effectively.

White up cream texture shown on the left blob, less creamier and more translucent than the Moisturising range:

Here’s an anti-dryness experiment done with applying the cream to the surface of a Japanese rice cake:

Size: 30g
Price: SGD $31.50

Review: I really liked this product too, it acts like extra moisture for my skin and it smells really awesome. The ricecake experiment really proves the product’s powers even more!

# 7- Bright White Ex *

This is a highly recommended extra special care step, and it contains Lipidure, which is an exclusive ingredient in Shiseido’s Intensive Spots Targeting Essence!!!! (Thumbs up!)
Contains m-transexamic acid, which soothes inflammation and inhibits excessive melanin production.

Also infuses skin with large amounts of moisture and strengthens skin’s functions with Hyaluronic Acid, Lipidure, and Moist Aqua Keeping Base. Glycyrrhizic acid deriavative promotes the recuperation of skin damanged by UV exposure.

It also has been recommended as a best-to-use product by popular Taiwanese Beauty Variety Show, 女人我最大. Use after softner!

Size: 45ml
Price: SGD $35.50

Review: Shiseido’s Intensive Spots Targeting Essence is one of the best selling spot treatment out there, and it’s got a really hefty price tag! Aqualabel’s Bright White Ex gives you the same ingredient at a more pocket friendly cost! Of course, 一份錢一份貨, so this may not be as intensive at the original, but it definitely works well.

#8 – Reset White Mask

Intensive whitening care mask which also replenishes the skin with sufficient amounts of moisture, and locks in moisture with Moist Aqua Keeping Base. Contains M-tranexamic acid, saxifrage extract and peony extract.

Review: It offers decent coverage, and my hand was instantly smoothed out. Please ignore my birthmarks! I don’t usually use powder foundation, and I wonder how this matches up to ZA’s infamous powder, especially since they are both owned by Shiseido?
