Through their continued partnership with CARE (a leading humanitarian organization), pureDKNY has been helping women around the world out of poverty.

After Vanilla from Uganda (A Drop of Vanilla, 2010), Verbena from Togo (A Drop of Verbena, 2011), pureDKNY A Drop of Rose (2012)’s main ingredient, roses, are harvested from local farmers in Turkey, the majority of whom are female. This helps secure long-term production of roses in Isparta.

“Naturally derived rose from turkey. In the rich soil, rain and sunshine of the isparta valley grows the perfect rose-lush, fragrant, pink. Once a year women, men and families work together harvesting full blooms by hand. Starting early dawn, roses are gathered one by one, then brought into the village for distilling. the process reflects the tranquil spirit of pureDKNY. Soft and sensually romantic, one flower, one love, one scent – pureDKNY, A Drop Of Rose.”

This is a clean, simple scent of fresh roses – not the heady grandma rose floral kind, but a feminine and sweet fragrance. For me (because scents react and smell differently on people), the pureDKNY A Drop of Rose can go on quite strong (I find it rather intense actually, so go easy on the spraying!) and smells like a linear scent to me – I smelt like roses all day, and this scent isn’t offensive nor does it make me sneeze like some other florals fragrances do.

If you like roses and clean scents, you’ll love this one.

I prefer more complicated and masculine scents most of the time, heh – but if I’m heading for a ROM on a sunny afternoon or jsut a day out in the park, I’ll most probably reach for this or the Love, Chloe!

The minimalistic bottle is made of 100% recyclable glass and aluminum components. The carton packaging is bio-degradable, and made in facilities powered by renewable energy using materials sourced from managed forests. The flat, circular clear glass bottle shaped like a dew drop, with a rose colored brushed aluminum cap/neck isn’t exactly the easiest thing to hold in the bigger sizes, though.

pureDKNY A Drop of Rose is available at all major department stores at the following prices/sizes/variations:

  • pureDKNY A Drop of Rose EDP (50ml) – $96 SGD
  • pureDKNY A Drop of Rose EDP (100ml) – $132 SGD
  • pureDKNY A Drop of Rose Body Butter (150ml) – $62 SGD
  • pureDKNY A Drop of Rose Body Wash (150ml) – $43 SGD

Purchase A Drop of Rose and get a complimentary handmade item!

In Singapore, pureDKNY partners with a local social enterprise, Mother and Child Project™, which seeks to empower disadvantaged women in Singapore so

of a trouble to get to for those who are not driving, but is absolutely lovely to dine at. I love the garden feel and the well decorated interior (can be a good place for an ROM!) and the best part? Free parking. All events should be held at places with free parking, I tell you. Hahaha. The ones who didn’t drive were chauffeured out to the nearest MRT station by a hired bus (or you can take a shuttle in/out!) – thank you EL for being so thoughtful.

Majolica Majorca Spring 2013 Chapter 36: Secret Blink

By | beauty, EOTD, Eyes, Fragrances, Lashes, Make Up | No Comments

I remember Majolica. Vividly.
There was once I had a fight with an ex boyfriend, and he flung all my things somewhere… Amongst all the things he broke, the one that was hardest to replace was my Majolica Majorca eyeshadow palette and I cried bitterly about it (gee woman, it’s just make up… NOT). For months I tried finding a replacement with my searching skills till I finally located someone on Livejournal who was selling it – I still have that palette and I’m still using it till now hahaha. It must have been at least 3-4 years ago man. GR-741, You were SO HARD to find!

I recalled buying it off someone named Debbie, and feeling extremely grateful to people who actually buy spares to keep or sell. *_* Hail all make up junkies! (P.S. Debbie if you’re reading this, THANK YOU!)

TL;DR: A favorite Majolica Majorca eyeshadow palette of mine got broken and I went to great lengths to get a replacement.

Anyway, Majolica Majorca has finally reached me for reviews and ta-dah! My story with Majolica Majorca begins with Chapter 36: Secret Blink.

Screen Shot 2013-01-25 at 11.04.54 PM
(screenshot off the website)

Chapter 36: Secret Blink consists of 5 items, of which 3 are limited edition, and 1 of them’s specially produced to commemorate MJ’s 10th Anniversary.

  • Lash Expander Edge Meister Mascara $25.90 SGD
  • Lash Jelly Drop $25.90 SGD
  • Majoromantica M $25.90 SGD
  • Skin Remaker Case 2013 $13.50 SGD
  • The Little Humming Book 1 $25.90 SGD

The Lash Expander Edge Meister Mascara and Lash Jelly Drop has already been launched, and the other 3 limited edition items will only be stocked on 28th Feb, 2013.

Lash Expander Edge Meister Mascara, $25.90 SGD

MJ’s pretty well know for their waterproof, strong curling hold mascaras, which quite frankly, I never really took to because of the plastic comb (while many people love it, I still prefer my brush type comb).

In comparison to all their other mascaras, the Lash Expander Edge Meister (very long and confusing ah, all the names) contains 4mm liquid lengthening fibres, and has a comb with shallow groves which coats lashes from the roots, and lengthens while separating each individual lash. On the bottom of the shallow grooved comb, is a small comb which helps comb through and coat the shorter and harder to get lashes.

In case you’re curious and want to know how this is different to the other mascaras:
Lash Expander Edge Meister gives you wide and separated lashes
Lash Beautifying Frame Plus gives you defined and long lashes
Lash King is an all in one mascara which lengthens, thickens, strengthens your lashes
Lash Enamel Glamour Volume On gives you shiny, thick and impactful lashes
Lash Gorgeous Wing Neo contains soft fibres which gives you a fuller lash effect

Now, I have to be really honest here – I know many people love MJ mascaras for its long wearing time, but I’m not a huge fan of Majolica Majorca mascara because of the plastic comb brush.

I know the plastic comb brush is specially made like that so that your lashes wouldn’t clump and it is indeed, VERY waterproof and a god-sent for people with oily lids etc etc, but the comb brush just takes too much time to apply for me.

It definitely works, but not my pick if you’re especially busy.
It will be interesting to try this out if you’re new to MJ mascaras – it certainly delivers when it comes to defining my lashes and waterproof ability, so if you need something waterproof + long-lasting, at a friendly price and you don’t mind the brush, pick this up!

In the EOTD below, you can see that it defines (darkens) my lashes and lengthens it just a little, and that’s 2 coats. It doesn’t really clump, but it does gets a little spidery at too many coats, so be careful with application. My lashes stayed curled the WHOLE day and the mascara formula doesn’t weigh my lashes down. I’ll give it some points for that!

Update: I gave the mascara another go again, and holy cow, look at my lashes!

Lash Jelly Drop $25.90 SGD

The Lash Jelly Drop is a rich lash treatment gel for eyes. It is formulated with Arginin which is a hair repair ingredient, and also wild rose extract + glycerin which moisturizeseven the skin along your lashline. The brush is pretty special – they describe it as dew drops, but to be it looks like a string of pearls, but fabricated with soft fibers and with just one coat, leaves your lashes darker, shinier and stronger.

Majoromantica M (limited edition) $25.90 SGD

The Majoromantica Mystic Garden Scent is a concentrated rich scent with a mixture of floral, fruity and sweet notes.

Black Rose, Rose, Freesia, Peony, Jasmine, Violet, Lily of the Valley, Pear & Orange Peel dominate the top notes, and at the heart of the fragrance it has June Berry, Raspberry, Strawberry, Blueberry and sweet chocolate. The base notes are made of Brown Sugar, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Amber, Musk, and Cacao Powder. This seems to be quite a gourmand scent… I felt hungry as I was typing out the medley of berries.

As fragrance reacts differently on everyone, the girls around the table dabbed a little on their wrists and Juli smelt like Pomegranate, while it’s super heavy on Jayne (she probably got dabbed on a lot haha) and light, floral on Yina.

Skin Remaker Case 2013 (limited edition) $13.50 SGD

This beautiful compact is specially made to contain MJ’s Skin Remaker Pore Cover ($29.50 SGD), a powder foundation that “evens out pores in a single stroke and provides a long-lasting, fine-textured smooth finish”. It also has satin powder and sebum catching powder to give you radiant skin, contains SPF, non-comedogenic and is dermatologist-tested.

Majolica Majorca’s Skin Remaker Pore Cover comes in 4 shades, BO10, BO20, OC10, and OC20.

The Little Humming Book 1 (limited edition) $25.90 SGD

This palette is the special item created for Majolica Majorca’s 10th year anniversary – it is reminiscent of their first Chatper in 2003, as noted by RougeDeluxe.

The Little Humming Book 1 contains 2 eyeshadow colors in Flower Dust (pink) and Green Shower (green), 1 eye cream base in Moonless Night and a lip gloss in Tulip Bed.

The palette is special in the sense that you can layer the two sheer shimmer shadows over the eye cream base to concoct a totally different color! This reminds me of Kate’s Magical Aurora Eyes Sophia / Make Up Blogette posted on Instagram before.

The Little Humming Book... is really a book! As RougeDeluxe has noted, it is the same concept as their The Little White Book and The Little Black Book released back in 2003.

There will be 4 Little Humming Books in total, to be released with each MJ Chapter throughout 2013, and I CANNOT WAIT to collect them all. Even if I wasn’t sponsored, I would grab them in a heartbeat.

I can’t bear to use this little beauty, so no EOTDs for this until I get over it or get a second one just to use : p
Lemming for this already? Mark the date on your calendar – this will only be out in stores on the 28th Feb 2013!

Majolica Majorca items are exclusive to Watsons in Singapore, and can be found in most Watsons outlets.

DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense

By | beauty, Fragrances | No Comments

You know it’s gonna be a staple when people ask “What is that perfume you’re wearing?” and “What’s that sweet smell? Is that your perfume?” and they follow it up with “It’s really nice!”

I love how it smells so fresh – in fact, this has become my *almost* everyday perfume because of how refreshing it smells on me! (I use almost because I wear different scents for different occasions and it also depends on what I’m wearing, especially events at night)

It’s a little hard to hold because it’s shaped like an apple, but if you like (not so) sweet, refreshing scents, this is the one for you.

If you’re not sure what I’m referring to by name, I’m sure you’ve at least seen the famous bottle shape, and the ads!

For summer 2012, DKNY has the Delicious Eau So Intense Collection, which is made up of two limited edition, intensified versions of their famous Be Delicious (green) and Fresh Blossom (pink) perfumes!

I don’t have the pink one, so after testing it out for about 2+ months (yikes, I’m so very late), here’s a review for you!

DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense (2012) has a higher concentration of the key apple note as compared to the original DKNY Be Delicious (launched back in 2004).

Admittedly, the fragrance didn’t appeal to me that much when I smelt it off tester strips at an event held at House @ Dempsey by the Estee Lauder folks, but I’m glad I gave it a try – I like how it wears and reacts on/to me. It really is an intensified version because the scent just lasts sooo long on me – but it’s not overpowering at all, even at the first spritz.

It’s not as sweet as, say, Gaga’s Fame or Taylor Swift perfume (which were a bit too overwhelmingly sweet to me), but instead, the DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense (the green one!) smells refreshing with its top citrus and green notes of apple extracts, grape fruit & magnolia, heart notes of lily of the valley (love it), rose and violet and base notes of white amber and fine sandalwood. (information from fragrantica) .

It is more green than citrus-y to me, which I really like… Fresh Blossom (le pink one) is much more floral as compared to Be Delicious – so if you prefer floral and lighter scents, go for that! So sorry for the bad description when it comes to scents – I’m not exactly the best writer out there, heh. But I do have my preferences (who doesn’t!) for scents and if your nose is anything like mine (For reference: the scents I’ve liked in the past are Burberry Brit Sheer, Issey Miyake, Bvlgari Omnia…) you’ll really like this.

The bottle shape is a little unique and can take some time adapting to – but I’ve been reaching for this so often, I no longer spritz myself in the face by accident, hahaha.

I’d suggest that you try DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense out for yourself, and not judge the scent by how it smells on the tester strips alone – it really grows on you once you wear it. Go to a perfume counter wearing no perfume, try it on yourself, and see how it wears through the day for you. I find that I still smell pretty fresh even at the end of the day, unlike some scents which disappears, and I wish there was a mini version for me to tote around so that I can bring it along to use after gym! I guess I’ll have to go get another empty travel miniature to decant this into.

Marc Jacobs
The cute bottle, which reminds one of a ladybug, is hard to miss – The eye-catching bottle is a cheerful composition of round shapes, stylishly spotted in a polka dot motif, which is a personal signature for Marc Jaobs – a favorite theme which he has returned to time and again since his very first collection.

Dot Marc Jacobs’ perfume bottle was designed in collaboration with Sayuri Shoji, and it contains a lush juicy floral with top notes containing Red Berries, Dragonfruit and Honeysuckle, and at the heart of the fragrance, Jasmine, Coconut Water, and Orange blossom whilst the base notes holds Vanilla, Musk, and Driftwood (huh?! this ingredient has me intrigued). The fragrance was designed in collaboration with Ann Gottlieb.

Dot Marc Jacobs 30ml: SGD $98
Dot Marc Jacobs 50ml: SGD $125
Dot Marc Jacobs 10ml: SGD $158

The fragrance also comes in the form of a Body Lotion (SGD $78 for 150ml) and a shower gel (SGD $69 for 150ml).

Is there anyone who doesn’t know, love or already wear Chloé? I’ve always found this scent familiar and I later realized that it was because a lot of girls I know are actually wearing this in all their different variations! For the confused and new to Chloé fragrances, they have Love, Chloé (2010), Love, Chloé Eau Intense (2011) and Love, Chloé Purse Spray (2012).

The latest addition to the Love, Chloe family – the Love, Chloé, Eau Florale is a light sensual scent encased in a streamlined glass bottle. A fresh and powdery scent enriched with Maté leaves, it opens with top notes of sweet pea, heart notes of green tea leaves and base notes of talc and rice powder.

I’m one who would avoid overly floral scents, but I find this just nice – it’s light, but feminine and the bottle is gorgeous with the gold cap and chain.

Love, Chloé, Eau Florale EDT 30ml: SGD $90
Love, Chloé, Eau Florale EDT 50ml: SGD $130
Love, Chloé, Eau Florale EDT 75ml: SGD $158

I’ve not caught a whiff of this scent yet, and the reviews I’ve read online leaves me just a little confused on whether it is a lighter or stronger version of the Balenciaga Paris fragrance – but the soft gradient green bottle with a hematite round cap and a silver neck (pyrite, it seems!) is just so gorgeous and inviting that I can’t wait to hunt this down so that I smell it for myself.

Here’s what the designer of Balenciaga has to say about the fragrance:

“I am revisiting a fragrance. Balenciaga Paris. I want to bring out its essential character. A fragrance is like a cut, you can linger over it indefinitely. The fragrance reveals a new story. You always have to revisit the past to discover something new.”

“Well, it’s supposed to be stronger but it’s not actually that strong—it just has a different language. It’s all the same elements but we are saying something different than we were with Balenciaga Paris, which was so much about the violets. This one has a metallic side, it’s about the violet leaves so it’s slightly more masculine and androgynous, too.”

– Nicolas Ghesquière

I’ve always had a thing for masculine, woody fragrances, and I have a feeling I’d really like this one. What delighted me was that there seems to be a candle version of the scent – and candles are my weakness! Not sure if that is available in Singapore, but if it is and if I like the scent, I’d most likely be adding one into my shopping bag.

Balenciaga L’essence EDP 50ml: SGD $148
Balenciaga L’essence EDP 75ml: SGD $185

So which one are you hoping to win?
Quick, share his post now and join the quick giveaway!

Winners of the giveaway are:
Erlina Husada
Ong Baoyun
Jacelyn Wong
