Make Up Store Summer Moonshadows – Copper & Mahogany

By | beauty, EOTD, eyeliner, Eyes, Eyeshadow, FOTD, Make Up | 3 Comments

Got reacquainted with a brand I have a lot of love for – Make Up Store. I was first captivated by their eyedust and shimmer back when I just started beauty blogging, and it’s no surprise that I’m updating my cobweb of a blog with some eyeshadows I’ve found lovely to use!

The two moonshadows I’ve used in this look are from two different summer collections – Enigma, and Mystic.

The Make Up Store Moonshadow’s a new addition to their already spectacular range of eyeshadows – microshadows, cybershadows, stardust (replacing the eyedust) and it is simply amazing. Moonshadows are pigmented, long lasting and holds a unique design – a base color, with two other colors sprinkled across it. This means that you can mix two or more colors for a customized color, and that you can use one single moonshadow to create a dimensional eyeshadow look if you wished to.

The Moonshadows lasted really well throughout the day (this close up shot was actually after 6 hours and an eyelash extensions outside) – and I had on their eyeliner in Awesome Performance as well, which compliments the orange-copper base I had on. make-up-store-moonshadows-summer-2016-5

I also used a bit of the purple shimmer from the Mahogany palette in the middle of my eyelid, and finished off the look with their Make Up Store Lipstick in Nude Beige, a creamy nude which was perfect for this!

Happy New Nude Year, you guys!

I know right, it’s been so long since I’ve blogged beauty. It’s a little late, but these products are pretty evergreen, and it’s probably one of my favorite Sephora loot to date!

Packed with products to make you look all primed and glowing… presenting:

Saying that I’ve received a ton of stuff in my mail is an understatement – everything looked so interesting that I couldn’t wait to try everything out! (I practically made myself go out everyday just so that I can put some makeup on, hahaha)

The Radiance Enhancing Pro Prime Light Optmizing Primer comes in white and contains a very sheer and fine amount of shimmer.

The Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (in Alaska 02) was runny and seems to be best applied with fingers! I tried using a brush and it didn’t give me as much coverage as using fingers. This comes with SPF 30PA+++ and the combination of both the primer and this tinted moisturizer made it feel like there were too much on my skin – I had to tissue blot it before applying powder.

NARS’ radiant creamy concealer is one of my favorite – especially Custard, because it’s perfect for my under eye circles. It spreads extremely well as it’s pretty emollient.

They may look pretty yellow on my arm but it works extremely well at correcting the redness on my face! I guess this was an acceptable shade for me – I’m pretty amazed by the shade selection by the Sephora marketing team! So far it’s been spot on!sephora-singapore-nude-action-jan-2016-evonnz-25

After a month or so of trying out all these products, I’ve naturally selected a few favorites – basically things that I’ve been reaching out for very often the past month, and that would be the Burberry Face Contour Pen, the Sephora eyeshadow palette and the NARS concealer in Custard!

The colors on the eyeshadows are too pretty to be missed, and blends so well on my eye socket – it defines my eye area well, and doesn’t easily end up making anyone looking like a racoon. Basically it’s an easy to use, everyday palette. Score!

Burberry’s Face Contour Pen is just SO easy to use on the go. You don’t need a brush when you’re on the go – just this pen, and your fingers. You can contour your nose bridge easily with this, and in fact can be used on the eyes as well! Here’s a video from Burberry for demonstration:

The NARS powder and the creamy radiant concealer have been favorites of mine since I’ve come across them, so no surprises or new notes there. I’ll be back soon with more updates on the latest cushion foundations that have been popping up EVERYWHERE… Till then!

Kate Designing Eyebrow Powder!

By | beauty, Eyebrows, Make Up | 12 Comments

Well you would know by now that I’m no stranger to Kate TOKYO Cosmetics – I’ve reviewed a number of their products, from their eyeliners, to eyeshadow palettes and my favourite Slim Create (face contouring) powder!

KATE TOKYO has been around for a long time – it was first released in February 1997, which makes it 18 years old, and has been a familiar brand and staple in Japanese drugstore’s jcosme charts due to their trend setting direction and great price point! In fact, I always linger around KATE TOKYO’s section a little longer in Japanese drugstores!

Today’s star would be the KATE Designing Eyebrow N – “a palette of 3 different shades of eyebrow powders to fill, define and create a naturally bold & defined set of brows”. The set retails for $20.50 SGD, and comes complete with a mirror and brush in a sleek black packaging.

It is available in 2 color options – EX4 & EX5, and I got the lighter shade to match my current hair color.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I love how Japanese cosmetics always include a visual at the back of the packaging – it makes directions much easier to follow, and here you can see that it says that the palette can also double up as a contour powder for the nose bridge area!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I just have to say I appreciate how compact it is and the multiple functions it has! It really makes it the perfect eyebrow palette on the go.

{ The Arch – How I usually do my brows }

I tend to do more arched brows than straight brows – that’s just something that comes naturally for me due to the shape of my brows.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Bare, with no eyebrow powder on. You can see that my brows have a natural arch (following the shape on top of the brow).

Filling the brows are easy when you have a natural arch to follow.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s as simple as using the stiff brush end of the palette to fill in the balder parts, and you’re done!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The eyebrow color’s just right for my hair color too, phew!

Doing straight brows however, requires a slightly higher skill set. I would go as far as to say that even I don’t get it right all the time.

But this palette does make it a little easier for me – unlike certain pencil brow products, it gives a softer, appearance as compared to the harsh lines of certain pencils, but yet the flat stiff brush allows you to draw a firmer outline for better definition when needed.

{ Everyone loves Straight Brows }

Thinner, arched brows could cause one to look older and sometimes, more lethergic or fierce. I would know because I was a victim of over-plucking my eyebrows a few years back!

Back in 2009! What was I thinking?

Back in 2009! I looked really incomplete with those brows – what was I thinking?

The straight brow look isn’t exactly ruler straight – it’s actually more about having fuller, and naturally defined brows! Less of an arch so that you don’t look so fierce!

↑ These are my natural brows, grown out a ltitle more than you saw in the first arched brows display.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

↑ Step 1: Draw a straight line under the arch of your eyebrow.

Psst… Because filling up underneath your eyebrow shortens the distance between your eyes and brows, it makes you look like you have deeper set eyes!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

↑ Step 2: Fill in any missing spaces with a mixture of shades a & b

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

↑ Step 3: Darken your inner corners with a mixture of shades a & b, but using the softer round brush end

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

↑ Step 4: Create a slight nose contour with a mixture of shades b & c!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

↑ Here’s one side of my brows undone, and done with KATE Designing Brow N.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

↑ Both sides completed!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I do like switching my looks from time to time to suit my dressing and mood, and I find that this palette’s a real keeper due to how versatile it is – I could go from an arched look to a straight look, and usually pencil products are just one shade, whereas eyebrow powders have the benefit of containing various shades in a palette!

Revisiting Kate Cosmetics – Super Sharp Liner, Slim Gel Pencil & Quick Eyeliner + Tutorial!

By | beauty, EOTD, eyeliner, Eyes, Make Up | 2 Comments

JCosme’s (Japanese Cosmetics) my first love! I remember the first time in Japan when I spent HOURS in a drugstore trying out make up and then carting them back home to use. Back then, Kate Cosmetics wasn’t even in Singapore, and it caught my eye with its packaging and choice of models and advertisement style – hip & adventurous, with an attitude to boot!

I’m so glad that Kate is now easier to get in Singapore, because their makeup have been much raved about (even before they arrived on our sunny island), and are worth picking up for a try!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I cycle through my makeup stash so very often, and I’ve recently rekindled my love for Kate’s eyeliners.

From Left to Right: Introducing the Kate Sharp Liner, Gel Pencil Liner and Quick Eyeliner!

From Left to Right: Introducing the Kate Super Sharp Liner, Slim Gel Pencil and Quick Eyeliner!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Kate Super Sharp Liner is the star product of Kate’s eyeliner family – with its super fine and flexible felt pen brush tip, you get better control while creating super fine lines! The latest renewal has been given a longer lasting formula, and is touted to be fade and smudge resistant! It’s available in 3 colors – BK-1 DenseJet black (which now comes with a spider design on it to signify that it can draw fine lines like that of a spiderweb), BK Natural Black & BR Deep Brown.

Kate Slim Gel Pencil is an automatic gel pencil – you rotate the bottom to dispense more product, and it rotates out in very small increments to reduce product wastage. If you love Kate’s gel pot liner (which I do!), you’ll love this as it deposits a deep, intense color and can even be used on the waterline. The skinny tip of this gel pencil eyeliner allows you to tightline with no extra skill required! Comes in 2 colors, BK Black and BR Brown!

Kate Quick Eyeliner is an all time favorite – there are days when you feel like using liquid eyeliner and this is the one to reach out for if you like drawing thick eyeliner like I do! The felt pen tip is sturdy and lets you fill in eyeliner easily, yet retains its shape well enough to draw a cat-eye flick if you want to. Also available in 2 colors, BK Black and BR Brown!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I very often get questions on how to draw eyeliner, so here’s a quick one with Kate’s Quick Eyeliner, which has a broader felt tip for you to draw thick to thin lines easily, and also how you can further define it with the slim gel pencil!

evonnz-draw-eyeliner-tutorial

Step 1: Apply your eyeshadow first before drawing on eyeliner! You wouldn't want eyeshadow to cover up a prettily drawn eyeliner, would you?

Step 2: Draw a line that extends slightly upwards and beyond your eye shape to give it a cat eye look. I know some people who stop here, but I like my eyeliner thick! This will be the bottom of my flick.

Step 4: FILL IN THE EMPTY AREA!

And Voila! Cat eyes!

And Voila! Cat eyes!

You can stop here, but I like to define my eyes further – especially if your brow game’s strong or if you’re headed out for the night!

Step 5: You'll find that the slim gel pencil is skinny enough to go between your lashes, and it deposits color really well too. If you have trouble with drawing one straight line along your lashes, you can also just dot it along your lower lash line until it forms a line, and gently use your pinky finger or a Q-tip to rub it gently and "connect the dots". For this part, you don't draw your waterline YET.

Step 6: After you're done with the lashline, you go IN to your waterline - pull your lower lid down ever so gently, and draw along the waterline. It's super easy with the slim gel pencil!

Here’s a little gif animation of how different it looks if you tightline your waterline! I especially love doing this when I’m wearing lighter colored contact lens as it really makes my eyes pop. If you have amber brown eyes, you’ll look incredibly stunning!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There are many ways of drawing eyeliner of course, this is just the way and look I’m super used to – there are more looks out there you can find with a quick google search – here’s a chart I found online!

I do sometimes do the double wing liner when I feel like it – and I find that Kate’s Super Sharp Liner is the easiest tool for me to create this look!

Step 1: Draw the cat liner the way you usually would. WIth Kate's Super Sharp Liner, I find that I can go extremely close to my lash line without accidentally making it look too thick at the front!

It’s a bit of a coincidence, but I was talking about eyeliners over tea with a friend and she mentioned that she loves Kate’s eyeliners, and I told her that I was using it the very same day! Hehe. We both agreed that the eyeliners, which are all MADE IN JAPAN, are definitely worth a try!

Kate Cosmetics’ liquid eyeliners (Super Sharp Liner & Quick Eyeliner) both retail at $17 SGD, and the Slim Gel Pencil goes at $20.50 SGD each. You can find Kate Cosmetics at selected NTUC Fair Price, SASA & Watsons outlets!

Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow Palette 1 – Nudes & Palette 2 – Artistic 2015

By | beauty, EOTD, Eyes, Eyeshadow, Make Up | No Comments

It’s not hard to love good make up, and Make Up For Ever, as an artist’s brand, does it extremely well. I’ve liked most of their releases, especially their pigmented Artist Shadows. The Artist Shadows come in a combination of 5 different textures – Matte, Metallic, Iridescent, Satiny and Diamond and in an amazing array of colors, making them a popular pick for make up artists!

It can be a little hard for you to decide on the colors you want (the Artist Shadows are sold as refills, which you can insert into purchasable empty palettes) and let’s face it – as non make up artists, it would take you ages before hitting pan on an eyeshadow!

For Fall 2015, Make Up For Ever has launched 2 Artist Shadows Palette, 1 (Neurals) & 2 (Pop colors) consisting of 9 x 1.8g of eyeshadows encased in a cardboard box (way to go, better than plastic!). I love palettes. I really do! And even better since it comes with a huge actual mirror (not those filmsy plastic ones) which is really useful when you’re traveling!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s been a while that these palettes have been out, and I’m honoured to have been asked to collaborate with Make Up For Ever to get 6 looks done to showcase just exactly how good their eyeshadow palettes are – and of course, to try it out myself. I’ve been reaching out for the neutral palette very often, and at $69 SGD, it’s really value for money since you get 9 eyeshadows, and crazily pigmented ones at that.

{ 9 Artist Shadows Palette 1 – The Neutrals }

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Palette 1 consists of 9 neutral colors, and the colors are placed for you to use from top down if you’re unsure of how to use palettes like this – or if you’re a pro, mix and match any way you want! This palette is here to stay in MUFE’s permanent line, and also in my make up stash, as it is one of the most well pigmented palettes I own to date! The colors are vibrant and nice and don’t end up looking muddy on lids!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And here are 3 looks you can do with this palette:

{ 9 Artist Shadows Palette 2 – Pop Colors }

This palette would appeal to many like it did to me – the eye-catching pink, blue and purple has definitely captured my attention! And I hope you purchased it before it went out of stock, because it’s limited edition! It retails at the same price, $69 SGD.

And here are 3 more looks done with the Artist Palette 2! I was pleasantly surprised by the pink, although I wish that the purple was a little deeper and a more violet hue as compared to the pink.

All eye looks were done over MUFE’s eye prime, which creates a matte flesh-toned base for your shadows and prolongs its wear life.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I would also recommend looking at MUFE’s fantastic artist brushes – they are made of synthetic hair, but oh-so-soft that you wouldn’t believe it. I couldn’t stop brushing it over my hands because it was just too smooth!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Both Artist Shadow palettes are available at Sephora Singapore stores for $69 SGD, and if you quote EVONNZ when you make a purchase at Sephora ION or Ngee Ann City before 2nd Sept, you’ll receive a deluxe sized gift! 2 days left to enjoy this offer – be quick – and my recommendation? GET BOTH!
