Make Up Store Summer Moonshadows – Copper & Mahogany

By | beauty, EOTD, eyeliner, Eyes, Eyeshadow, FOTD, Make Up | 3 Comments

Got reacquainted with a brand I have a lot of love for – Make Up Store. I was first captivated by their eyedust and shimmer back when I just started beauty blogging, and it’s no surprise that I’m updating my cobweb of a blog with some eyeshadows I’ve found lovely to use!

The two moonshadows I’ve used in this look are from two different summer collections – Enigma, and Mystic.

The Make Up Store Moonshadow’s a new addition to their already spectacular range of eyeshadows – microshadows, cybershadows, stardust (replacing the eyedust) and it is simply amazing. Moonshadows are pigmented, long lasting and holds a unique design – a base color, with two other colors sprinkled across it. This means that you can mix two or more colors for a customized color, and that you can use one single moonshadow to create a dimensional eyeshadow look if you wished to.

The Moonshadows lasted really well throughout the day (this close up shot was actually after 6 hours and an eyelash extensions outside) – and I had on their eyeliner in Awesome Performance as well, which compliments the orange-copper base I had on. make-up-store-moonshadows-summer-2016-5

I also used a bit of the purple shimmer from the Mahogany palette in the middle of my eyelid, and finished off the look with their Make Up Store Lipstick in Nude Beige, a creamy nude which was perfect for this!

Revisiting Kate Cosmetics – Super Sharp Liner, Slim Gel Pencil & Quick Eyeliner + Tutorial!

By | beauty, EOTD, eyeliner, Eyes, Make Up | 2 Comments

JCosme’s (Japanese Cosmetics) my first love! I remember the first time in Japan when I spent HOURS in a drugstore trying out make up and then carting them back home to use. Back then, Kate Cosmetics wasn’t even in Singapore, and it caught my eye with its packaging and choice of models and advertisement style – hip & adventurous, with an attitude to boot!

I’m so glad that Kate is now easier to get in Singapore, because their makeup have been much raved about (even before they arrived on our sunny island), and are worth picking up for a try!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I cycle through my makeup stash so very often, and I’ve recently rekindled my love for Kate’s eyeliners.

From Left to Right: Introducing the Kate Sharp Liner, Gel Pencil Liner and Quick Eyeliner!

From Left to Right: Introducing the Kate Super Sharp Liner, Slim Gel Pencil and Quick Eyeliner!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Kate Super Sharp Liner is the star product of Kate’s eyeliner family – with its super fine and flexible felt pen brush tip, you get better control while creating super fine lines! The latest renewal has been given a longer lasting formula, and is touted to be fade and smudge resistant! It’s available in 3 colors – BK-1 DenseJet black (which now comes with a spider design on it to signify that it can draw fine lines like that of a spiderweb), BK Natural Black & BR Deep Brown.

Kate Slim Gel Pencil is an automatic gel pencil – you rotate the bottom to dispense more product, and it rotates out in very small increments to reduce product wastage. If you love Kate’s gel pot liner (which I do!), you’ll love this as it deposits a deep, intense color and can even be used on the waterline. The skinny tip of this gel pencil eyeliner allows you to tightline with no extra skill required! Comes in 2 colors, BK Black and BR Brown!

Kate Quick Eyeliner is an all time favorite – there are days when you feel like using liquid eyeliner and this is the one to reach out for if you like drawing thick eyeliner like I do! The felt pen tip is sturdy and lets you fill in eyeliner easily, yet retains its shape well enough to draw a cat-eye flick if you want to. Also available in 2 colors, BK Black and BR Brown!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I very often get questions on how to draw eyeliner, so here’s a quick one with Kate’s Quick Eyeliner, which has a broader felt tip for you to draw thick to thin lines easily, and also how you can further define it with the slim gel pencil!

evonnz-draw-eyeliner-tutorial

Step 1: Apply your eyeshadow first before drawing on eyeliner! You wouldn't want eyeshadow to cover up a prettily drawn eyeliner, would you?

Step 1: Apply your eyeshadow first before drawing on eyeliner! You wouldn’t want eyeshadow to cover up a prettily drawn eyeliner, would you?

Step 2: Draw a line that extends slightly upwards and beyond your eye shape to give it a cat eye look. I know some people who stop here, but I like my eyeliner thick! This will be the bottom of my flick.

Step 3: Starting from the end of the tip, draw inwards close to your eyelids!

Step 4: FILL IN THE EMPTY AREA!

And Voila! Cat eyes!

And Voila! Cat eyes!

You can stop here, but I like to define my eyes further – especially if your brow game’s strong or if you’re headed out for the night!

Step 5: You'll find that the slim gel pencil is skinny enough to go between your lashes, and it deposits color really well too. If you have trouble with drawing one straight line along your lashes, you can also just dot it along your lower lash line until it forms a line, and gently use your pinky finger or a Q-tip to rub it gently and "connect the dots". For this part, you don't draw your waterline YET.

Step 6: After you're done with the lashline, you go IN to your waterline - pull your lower lid down ever so gently, and draw along the waterline. It's super easy with the slim gel pencil!

Step 7: Do the same - lift up your upper eyelid and repeat step 5 (between your lashes to color in any beige gaps) and then step 6 (along your upper waterline), and Voila! The final look!

Here’s a little gif animation of how different it looks if you tightline your waterline! I especially love doing this when I’m wearing lighter colored contact lens as it really makes my eyes pop. If you have amber brown eyes, you’ll look incredibly stunning!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

There are many ways of drawing eyeliner of course, this is just the way and look I’m super used to – there are more looks out there you can find with a quick google search – here’s a chart I found online!

I do sometimes do the double wing liner when I feel like it – and I find that Kate’s Super Sharp Liner is the easiest tool for me to create this look!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Step 1: Draw the cat liner the way you usually would. WIth Kate's Super Sharp Liner, I find that I can go extremely close to my lash line without accidentally making it look too thick at the front!

It’s a bit of a coincidence, but I was talking about eyeliners over tea with a friend and she mentioned that she loves Kate’s eyeliners, and I told her that I was using it the very same day! Hehe. We both agreed that the eyeliners, which are all MADE IN JAPAN, are definitely worth a try!

Kate Cosmetics’ liquid eyeliners (Super Sharp Liner & Quick Eyeliner) both retail at $17 SGD, and the Slim Gel Pencil goes at $20.50 SGD each. You can find Kate Cosmetics at selected NTUC Fair Price, SASA & Watsons outlets!

Basic Makeup Routine [ Dec 2014 ]

By | Base, beauty, Blush, Concealer, eyeliner, Eyes, Face, Make Up | No Comments

Every time I see a question that goes along the lines of “if you could only use one make up product what would you use?” I roll my eyes.

Honey, unless you’re EXTREMELY BLESSED, you’ll need at least 2 things to look good. Or in my case, 7.

This is my basic make up routine. I need to finish all these points before I can feel ready to face the world:

  1. Base – Concealer & Foundation
  2. Contour
  3. Brows
  4. Eyeliner
  5. Blush
  6. Mascara
  7. Lips (this one I sometimes only do it when I get to the car heh)

I know, that’s actually a LOT. But miss one out and I’ll feel incomplete and awkward throughout the day! Thats why I have an emergency kit in the car for touch ups or when I forget something while rushing out.

Sharing with you guys my most often reached for products and faves for all these steps!

{ Concealer & Foundation }

I can’t go without this. I can skip base, but concealer is though especially since it takes some time for the acne scars to fade away. Doesn’t help that I popped a huge zit out on my chin recently…

So suffice to say, I'm a huge fan of concealers. My favorites here are for EITHER the under eye or the scars - it's very hard for me to find something that can work on both my zits/PIH AND my undereye because they require different tones.

So suffice to say, I’m a huge fan of concealers. My favorites here are for EITHER the under eye or the scars – it’s very hard for me to find something that can work on both my zits/PIH AND my undereye because they require different tones.

  • YSL Touche Eclat 2.5 (color corrects my under eye area)
  • Amazing Concealer in Light Golden (best for my under eye)
  • Laura Mercier High Coverage Concealer in 2 (for spots)
  • Lancome Le Correcteur Pro in 200 W Buff (a comprehensive kit for the under eye with a corrector AND concealer AND seetting powder)
  • Make Up For Ever Full Cover in 4 (awesome for spots cos it matches my skin tone 100%)
  • Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer (waterproof!!! long lasting)
  • Marc Jacobs Beauty Re(marc)able Concealer in shade 3 Young
  • Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer (02 to correct under eye and 04 to conceal!)

The Kevyn Aucoin one is by far one of my favorites as it’s really multipurpose -it contains honey and jojoba oil, and can go from sheer to full coverage by simply mixing it with moisturizer or using it on its own. It completely covers my spots AND under eye concealer and it’s the only one that can do that – however, I need to mix both shade 02 and 04 to get a proper match as a foundation. So that’s a bummer as it’s 38 pounds EACH.

Before & After concealing. In here, I used: MJB Re(marc)able for the PIH marks, MUFE Full Cover for the zit and Amazing Concealer for the under eye.

Before & After concealing + base (Laneige BB Cushion). In here, I used: MJB Re(marc)able for the PIH marks and redness, MUFE Full Cover for the zit and Amazing Concealer for the under eye.

These days I’ve been reaching out for cushions more often as I’m lazy to wash brushes – and the Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control has been my favorite to reach out for! I love how it doesn’t leave me too shiny, and the color seems to be better than the non Pore Control one so… yup. My choice these days! I usually apply concealer beneath bb cushion, and if I’m using liquid foundation, concealer comes later.

{ Contour }

The Laneige BB Cushion does leave me a little flat and whiter than usual, so contouring is a must. Actually I’ve been becoming a bigger fan of contouring after trying out Charlotte Tilbury’s contour and highlight palette and bought quite a few to try!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

  • Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons in 00 Nude
  • Suratt Artistique Blush in Aureole (highlighter) and Grisalle (the darker taupe for contouring)
  • Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit (the left column: Fawn, Java, Havana)

{ Brows }

Previously I didn’t see the need for eyebrow embroidery but after I’ve done it, I realized that it helps keep my brow shape in check and also makes it easier to draw! I still fill out my brows but on the days that I have no make up on, it still looks better than before I did embroidery.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Some of my favorite brow products – my brow products are always changing due to my hair color changes. These days I have dark hair so I do try to go a bit darker… but not overly dark, lah.

  • Tarte The Brow Architect (double ended – sword cut on one end and a brush on the other which I find most useful!)
  • Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil in Walnut (I use Seal Grey more often)
  • Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow in Light / Medium (has a mascara brush)
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Taupe (used with a brush)

Here’s a little gif animation of how I draw my brows:

2014-12-evonnz-makeup-routine-brows

{ Eyeliner }

Ahhh another favorite! Eyeliner colors makes my heart skip a beat more than eyeshadow colors sometimes, haha! But for a basic, clean look, these are what I like to use:

My army of go-to black and browns

My army of go-to black and browns

  • Bobbi Brown Pot Eyeliner
  • Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Kajal Liner in Black Amethyst (it’s a pencil on one end and a smuder on the other)
  • M.A.C Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline (this one is LE Prabal Gurung Collection)
  • Charlotte Tilbury Rock & Kohl Iconic Liquid Eye Pencil in Barbarella Brown
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil in Demolition (brown) / Zero (black)
  • Heroine Make Impact Frame Eyeliner
  • Eyeko Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner
  • Heroine Make Liquid Eyeliner

It was really hard to pick a favorite – Charlotte Tilbury wins for how easy it is to glide across the lid even after almost a year, and how long lasting it is for me – there’s another one I love even more, it’s from  THREE but it has glitter spam in it so I don’t like to use it on the rims of my eye. Then again, eyeliner doesn’t usually smudge on me (even if it does it’s a negligible bit).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

These days I like using pencils more as my eyes look different without lenses (after doing ReLEx SMILE, a kind of LASIK) and I tend to line the rims of my eyes more. On the days I don’t feel like it, I use liquid liners! Eyeko Eyedo has a fat flexible nib which is super easy to control, so it goes into my favorites list!

{ Mascara }

When I don’t have my eyelash extensions on, I use mascara. And oh how I LOVE mascaras! Unfortunately I go through them VERY quickly (replace every 3-4 months) so I don’t have a compilation to show you, but my favorites are:

  • Heroine Make Long & Curl Mascara (SUPER waterproof)
  • Tarte Lights, Camera Flashes Mascara (Love how buildable it is!)
  • Lancome Le Extreme Waterproof (My first love)
  • Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara (Great Volume!)
  • Make Up For Ever Aqua Smoky Lash Mascara
Without Mascara (but curled)

Without Mascara (but curled)

{ Lips }

My lips… are extremely troublesome! Although it’s pretty thick, it’s darkened on the upper lip and always cracking at the bottom lip. -_-” And that’s why I usually favor lipbalms with color because they make me look less poisoned or like a smoker. (I don’t smoke!)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

  • Korres Lip Butter in Quince
  • Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip & Cheek Balm
  • Fresh Sugar Rose Lip Balm (mini)
  • Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 52 Fetiche
  • Ettusais Lip Essence (melty bar) (no color but SUPER moisturizing!)

I love lip balms that don’t detach easily and FRESH is like a double confirm because of the screw cap! This mini is from their holiday collection and it’s SOOOO CUTE!!! And portable too! The Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Lip Balm can be used on the cheeks BUT i never do that. Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 54 Fetiche is not a balm, but pretty moisturizing and the color is different from a tint AND suit me perfectly. I love it on me.

A FOTD to end the post – this was just before my gigantic pimple popped out. T_T I’m sorry, I won’t eat cheesecake anymore!

Holiday 2014: Urban Decay Vice3 | Black Magic | Shadow Box | Naked Basics 2 | Naked Illuminated

By | beauty, EOTD, eyeliner, Eyes, Eyeshadow, Face, Fashion, Make Up, OOTD | No Comments

I didn’t mean to be so late with the Holiday Collection, but right after my trip I went for eye surgery and I hadn’t expected such a long down time – I can work, but at a much slower speed as my vision is still rather blurry (it’s normal!) and it sort of differs day to day. Couple that with jet lag of sorts that was exacerbated by the amount of sleep I had to clock during my surgery / when I couldn’t see well (what is there to do but sleep? haha) and there you go – I’m extremely late!

But better late than never, they say!

Yesterday saw me going for the first event post ReLEx SMILE vision correction surgery – for Urban Decay’s Holiday 2014 showcase at Sephora ION’s launchpad – their showcase will be there for the next 3 weeks, so you still have time to grab the limited edition Vice3 palette (2000 pieces only in Singapore) – you will be entitled to a travel gift set with min $100 purchase and also some freebies at the counter (while stocks last!). And don’t forget your 10% loyalty discount with your Sephora Black Card!

urban-decay-sephora-launchpad-holiday-2014-1

The event kicked off with a makeup demo by UD Singapore Makeup Artist, Maz, on how to quickly achieve alluring eyes with Urban Decay’s Holiday 2014 items – using Tornado from the Black Magic 24/7 Eyeliner set, she first drew a thick eyeliner on Melissa’s face, and then smudged it out with the very useful brush from Naked Basics 2 which had a short bristled end, perfect for smudging! She then patted Heroine over the dark purple base created with the eyeliner and finished it off by using Naked Illuminated powder on the inner corner of Melissa’s eyes!

urban-decay-sephora-launchpad-holiday-2014-2

I’ve always loved Maz’s work, and she definitely gave me some ideas on how to use the products from the collection!

After the make up demo, Maz revealed the upcoming lipstick treasure chest from Urban Decay – Full Frontal Lipstick Stash, which will be launching on 12th Nov at $60 SGD!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The limited edition Full Frontal Lipstick Stash set contains 6 Revolution Lip colors (3 totally brand new) and a full-sized 24/7 Glide-On Lip Pencil in Ozone, which is a clear lip liner that helps to set lipstick as well as prevent bleeding / feathering! The lipstick colors featured in the set are: Ladyflower, Gash, Crush, Liar, F-Bomb & Illicit.

One of the highlights of the event was watching an online acquaintance turned friend, Dem, doing his graffiti magic on an Urban Decay canvas right in front of me – I thought it couldn’t be more befitting because of UD’s image – plus, I’m all for supporting local art talents!

urban-decay-sephora-launchpad-holiday-2014-3

The 1.8 x 1.8m tall Canvas was painted entirely by him in his studio, and he finished it off at the event with some touch ups and the marking of the UD symbol right in the middle of it. It was really nice to meet his pretty and equally creative (her origami skills are like level 100) fiancée, Rae! Follow Adam and his wonderful works on instagram at @dem0365!

Okay let’s go back to Urban Decay’s Holiday 2014 collection and swatches!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Urban Decay Holiday 2014 Lineup:

  • VICE3 Palette, $88 SGD
  • Shadow Box, $52 SGD
  • Naked Basics 2, $45 SGD
  • Naked Illuminated Shimmering Powder for Body & Face, $43 SGD
  • Black Magic 24/7 Pencil Eyeliner Set, $60 SGD

Urban Decay Vice 3 Palette

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Urban Decay Vice3 is the third Vice Palette (I feel silly typing this already) which is released every year. I remember fondly the queue for the first one… and whenever there’s a queue for Urban Decay things it’s always good and comes with loads of goodies as an appreciation to the fans (for example, for Naked3’s launch the first 3 in the queue got a Naked Vault each!)

This year’s palette is sleeker, thinner, and comes with a complimentary pouch which can fit an iPad mini!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Sorry about the dings in the eyeshadows hahaha I’ve swatched them before I realized that my shots taken before swatching didn’t quite cut it. I love, love love this palette! I think it’s got a great mixture of everything in it – from mattes, to metallics, cool colors, warm colors and it’s basically a palette which I will REALLY bring overseas with me. Just this one palette!

I don’t know how UD does it, but every Vice palette contain never-seen-before shades, and these are excellent! Great color payoff and as usual, good formulation and texture for this palette. I even told my friend what a waste it was that she didn’t want to get it because she had the other palettes. I’m telling you, Felicia – you’re missing out! Hahaha.

(swatches are done from bottom up, by columns)

Urban Decay Shadow Box

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Urban Decay Shadow box contains 12 popular colors from UD’s collection and I guess it does pale out if you’re already getting Vice3, but this palette’s selection is really pretty goo and the casing as well! At $52, it’s a great set if you’re new to Urban Decay shadows – or as a gift for the girlfriend who doesn’t own anything from Urban Decay yet!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Urban Decay Naked Basics 2

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Naked Basics 2 palette comes after the great success of Naked Basics 1, which was well loved (very well loved by me actually, I keep reaching for it). This time, we see a much more subdued, and less contrasting selection in the palette – still super easy to use for newbies and people who are just starting out with eyeshadows! And the brush that comes with it is really useful cos of the short bristled end! I love using that to smudge out or apply colors more precisely nearer to my lash line. And it’s just $45 SGD, too.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Urban Decay Naked Illuminated

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This Illuminating face and body powder’s super pretty and shiny – a quick dust gives you the glow you need for this holiday season. it comes with a brush at the bottom compartment of the box which i nearly forgot about *sheepish look*. That’s really useful though, because this baby is really full of glitter and you’d want a separate brush for this instead of using your blush brush!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It is almost too shimmery for the cheeks, but on the collarbones and shoulders it is fantastic! It serves well as a quick sweep across your lids too, or as Maz demonstrated at the event, used with a wet brush at the inner corner of your eyes. Aura is a beautiful shade, and worth looking into! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Urban Decay Black Magic 24/7 Eyeliner Set

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My other favorite from UD’s holiday collection – Black Magic set contains 4 24/7 Double-ended eye pencils, which means you get 8 colors for just $60! I repeat, 8 eyeliner colors for just $60 SGD. One eyeliner pencil would cost you $32 SGD alone, so that’s like… $16 * 8 = $128 value in this set!

Each eyeliner pencil has 1 black shade and 1 colorful shade (I wouldn’t consider brown and grey very colorful but at least it’s not black-black), and Black Market and Tornado are also exclusive to this set! This means… you could get this set and keep that for yourself and gift the rest away, haha – I KNOW I’M KEEPING IT!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

EOTD with Urban Decay’s Holiday Products

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt was only natural for me to don a colorful dress and match it with a colorful eye look using Urban Decay’s colors from the Vice3 palette, of course!

In this look:

  • Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Black Velvet as base eyeliner and LSD & Tornado applied over it.
  • Shadows used: Bondage, Alchemy, Revolver

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I took this photo a few good hours after the event so it’s smudged a bit as I had to push my lids quite often to drip eye drops. So sorry about the smudging!

Paired off with a dress I picked out from Love, Bonito specially for this event – the Zalita printed dress!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I initially wanted to alter this dress shorter but I’m glad I didn’t, because I think the length keeps it really elegant! The material is comfy and the prints are beautiful (and designed in-house at Love, Bonito so you wouldn’t find the print used anywhere else). In case anyone’s interested, I wear Size S for this.

Thanks, Love, Bonito team for this! <3

Marc Jacobs Beauty arrives at Sephora Singapore

By | Base, beauty, eyeliner, Eyes, Eyeshadow, Face, Make Up | No Comments

You know, after being a beauty blogger for a few years… You start to realize that hype is something real.

When I was in USA (that was nov last year!) shopping and feeling slightly burnt out from having too much make up (dare I really say that?!) I wasn’t sure of what to buy and I had all these beautiful things in front of me – Lancôme Artliners in multi colors (just launched in Sephora Singapore a while ago) and even Marc Jacobs Beauty, but I bought so little make up that even I surprised myself. In fact I completely passed up Marc Jacobs Beauty…

Fast forward to April, a good 5 months after and Marc Jacobs Beauty FINALLY arrives in Singapore.

Other than fellow Singaporeans and the folks in Sephora hamming it up, it’s by the gushing of my fellow beauty blogger pals that got me excited.

“It’s so smooth!” “Surprising!” “What a beauty” and most of all, Candice had the biggest part in influencing my decisions. No other better words to believe than those coming from a very practical (and damn good!) beauty blogger.

And that’s when I started to pay attention to the make up, taking time to swatch and play with some of the make up myself.

Oh no. Fell in love. Again.

I was pleasantly surprised by everything. Was it worth all the hype and did it live up to the gushing and expectations? It jolly well did and then surpassed some! : D

Swatches, and pictures for you. 😏 what’s the point of being a beauty blogger if you don’t spread the poison around? Heh.

In Singapore, Marc Jacobs Beauty items are available exclusively at Sephora.

And now I have to stop myself from entering a Sephora store just to check out more items from MJB. Stay still, my fluttering heart!
