piCture pOlish Blog Fest 2013

By | beauty, Nail Art, Nails | No Comments

This is my third year doing piCture pOlish Blog Fest and I’m glad to be doing this again for them! The first two years (2011, 2012) were more like swatch fests, so for 2013 they’ve decided to do something different – nail art with 3 polishes!

We couldn’t pick the polishes – it was sent at random, and after ripping my package apart, here’s what I found sitting in layers of bubble wrap:

Jade, Mad Magenta & Citrus!

One thing I’ve come to love about piCture pOlish bottles are the printed labels which are stuck on the the front of the bottle – they’re huge and there’s no need to flip to the side or the bottom to look for the polish names!

I flipped through some books and went online for inspiration and finally settled on a design from a Japanese nail artist which I modified slightly with the colors!

Armed myself with…

Nail art brushes!
I have both long brushes (for striping) and short ones – I purchased them from eBay a few years ago actually, haha. Glad to put them into use now!

Striping tape!
I also included other kinds of tape to void our areas where I didn’t want polish of a particular color to get on them.

Here’s a quick tutorial / view of how I blocked out the colors!

I ended with gold striping tape lined in the middle – To avoid curling, apply the tape about 15 seconds after a layer of top coat – and then press it down firmly with an orange stick!

Quick tip: Don’t use tapes that are too sticky – You can use washi tape (but try to get the cheaper kinds!) or if you have no choice, try to make the sticky tape less sticky by taping it on your own skin first to make it less adhesive – else your nail would be in a mess!

This was done with the nail art brush shown earlier! A chevron marking – it isn’t exactly the neatest, but I like that the chevron lines covered my nail lines a little – I’ve been loving the translucent nail bed + nail art look going around!

Added a square stud in the middle – placed it to look like a diamond shape, aligning with the chevron lines!

Freehand on one half and nail art striping brush on the other half. Can you tell? Heh. I love the striping brush so much! I know this probably looks really simple but it was incredibly hard to make sure the lines were smooth and also I had to make sure the parts where the lines met each other were aligned well too. I don’t even wnat to think about checkered and houndstooth!

And the final artwork, after two layers of top coat!

Happy with this summer manicure with bright, happy colors! I didn’t use Jade (on the middle finger) to do any lines as it was sheerer than Citrus and Mad Magenta. Wished I have were neater with the lines though, that would probably take more practice! ; D

piCture pOlish is based in Australia, ships internationally, with 2 bottles as minimum purchase and you can find your nearest distributor if you want to buy locally instead or you don’t want them shipped from Australia! Check out their everyday deals (for PP’s official website only) if you want a good bargain!

Thank you, piCture pOlish! ; D

I’m Back! Random Updates + Nailart post

By | Awesomeness, おもしろい Omoshiroi!, Nail Art, Nails, Shopping, Travel | 2 Comments

It was my birthday yesterday (shameless yah haha) and I’ve been SUPER busy catching up with work and my family.

Nearly exploded as I was fed too much during dinner – I think that’s the happiest way to spend my birthdays – EATING!!!

So In Japan….
Some of my instagrammed pics as they’re just really more convenient to throw together in a blog post. XD Thank you Webstagram and Instagram.

I got an amazing shot of Tottori from the domestic flight. And also soaked in an inroom onsen. Wahhhh shiok. But the weather, not so.

We specially flew down to Tottori for... The Gosho Aoyama museum! YES! Crazy conan fans... Was a thing to do before travelling gets too difficult next time.

We found the original Marutama in Tokyo, Japan, in Ryogoku. Finally! Ryogoku is also where the sumo wrestling is held : )

Stayed in Shinjuku again. This was after the typhoon. The Japanese are really resilient and strong people. The queues formed during the train delay and suspension was amazing. No chaos and no fights.

I've been to Asakusa's Sensoji Temple.... FOUR TIMES. I must say it is still quite enjoyable to walk/shop, especially in autumn when it isn't too hot. ; p I got my Yukatas here too!

Bought $75 per side earrings. When the guy at OZ Abstract told me it was the last pair, I snapped it up. Will blog about this shop soon! I love, love love their unique designs.

It was Typhoon Day and we damn "brave" to go out, apparently. My umbrella got killed and I was utterly wet.

While crossing the roads in Shinjuku with out 3 pieces of luggage + 4 big bags and trying to get to the Bus Transfer area, we ran into a really organized protest. As Moses said, even their banners are typographically well spaced. LOL. But this was a protest held by foreigners la I believe.

Finally... Some shoddy nail art I did when I got back cos my manicure really couldn't last me 9 days in Japan. Salon Creative Nail polish in 013, Fuschia (399 yen from drugstores?) and star stickers (399 yen as well) and sticker tapes for the stripes. : D

Till when I get more time to update! I’ve hauled an amazing amount of eyelashes back, but it’s for friends and they’ve all/mostly been kept/distributed to their respective owners! Can’t wait to try new double eyelid tapes and such. XD

Turquoise Gradient NOTD + LOTDs

I first chanced upon this in Japan during my previous trip and it’s been an awesome tool for gradient nails!!!

When I found it in Hong Kong’s Bonjour I just HAD TO GET IT! It was going for 59 HKD which was around 10$ or LESS!?!?

The brand is Beauty World Nail Cocktail.

Purple one on left from Japan, Turquoise on right from HK's Bonjour.

I believe they’re selling at SASA as well? Did a google search and SASA’s online store (based in HK) was selling it! I doubt the local ones have it, but it was around SGD $13 on the website and that’s quite cheap. Just that shipping is $15 USD if you don’t hit $75USD min.

Done with Beauty World Nail Cocktail

Okay I kindda cheated, I also used China Glaze’s Fairy Dust and Canmake’s glitter polish on it. Prettier lahhhhhh. All those multi colored glitter! Hahaha.

I didn’t expect myself to like this color so much till I had it on my nails – It’s Risque’s official color, and my favorite color! : DDDDD

Wore one of my H&M dresses on Wednesday. : D paired it with a pair of stockings that Risque is bringing in….. yep the one in the earlier post! I loveeeeeeeee it. In fact a lady in Raffles Place stopped me to ask where I got them.. I was pleasantly surprised! : ) Good indication! <3 [caption id="attachment_4364" align="aligncenter" width="550" caption="H&M Dress, Risque bronze pocketwatch necklace, Risque's heart stockings <3"][/caption]

Brought my Daddy dearest to the tailor’s to get him a suit done for my wedding… went casual (SO HOT LEH NOWADAYS OMG) with a Cotton On tank top (I have like 10 of them. $5 each at Cotton On Raffles!), Zara shirt (I love it lah, very cooling cos it’s so thin) and just brown shorts. I know it’s a little long, i like it like that. I sometimes tie it up as well and it still looks good tied up. : )

Accessorized with an owl ring (you can’t see it here) and the Oversized Owl Necklace from Risque. Super cute! I think it was inspired from MNG accessories – Evey has the exact same one from MNG and paid at least two times more for it. -_-”

Wearing Risque's oversized owl necklace. Bronze accessories goes damn well with white / this outfit.

Looking forward to parties (beer!) tomorrow, and the flea on Saturday!!!

We’re planning for Risque to be launched online on 15th May. Working hard on it!

In the meantime, sign up for our mailing list here on or join our Facebook page for latest updates!

Die, havent sent out invites, no wedding rings yet, no wedding dress chosen.. I completely forgot about it! Queue for iPad 2 or choose wedding dress?!??! : (

Candy Nails

By | beauty, Nail Art, Nails | 2 Comments

So I was gonna attend Make Up Store’s preview/launch of their new collection, Pixel and I decided to do my nails and decided on multi candy colored nails with dripping “cream”! : D

Colors I used were:

China Glaze Lemon Fizz (yellow)
Orly Cotton Candy (pink)
Orly Ancient Jade (green)
Orly Snowcone (blue)
OPI Done Out In Deco (purple)

For the dripping cream, I used acrylic paint with a large dotting tool and drew it right on!

Acrylic paints are super fuss free and easy to draw as they don’t dry as quickly as polish… Though that’s a bane cos I waited quite a while for it to dry – they can be easily wiped off without using lacquer remover! : D

Gonna play with my acrylic paints more!
