If you’ve seen me in real life or been reading my whines about my skin, you’ll know that this beauty blogger has a HUGE problem. ACNE. The worst part is that they’re hormonal so I can’t go on medication since I’m trying to conceive.
Other than cutting down on junk food (I think I’ve more than halved my instant noodles and junk food intake), cutting off dairy where I can help it (no more fresh milk, etc), I’ve also been changing bed sheets and towels more frequently, and even sanitize my work area from time to time. Alas, they still come (so it’s definitely hormonal). But by doing all these, I’ve most definitely very much lessened the chances of developing acne due to clogged pores and dirty skin!
I’ve done extra research and reading about the ways in my quest for better skin (examples listed above) – and one of the extra steps I’ve taken to prevent pimples and acne, starts at the very first step – cleansing.
As you know, a face not properly cleansed of make up at the end of the day spells disaster. When the face is clean and free of make up, you absorb skincare better – allowing your skin to repair itself better during your sleep from the damage taken in during the day.
I have a VERY bad habit of coming home and then sitting at my desk for a while instead of removing my make up immediately – that has to change, because I get stuck at the computer for very long hours and that would mean that in 24 hours, I’ll spend more time having make up on THAN off! D:
Have you heard of Clinique’s customizable 3-step skincare system? They’re a leader in the cleansing category with a deep dermatological heritage – and their philosophy for skin care is easy – simply cleanse, tone, moisturize your way to good skin. Which is good, because when you have skin problems, you’ll want to pare it down to the bare minimum to find out what’s causing your problem.
And after 3 years of R&D (over 300 sketches & 100 prototypes) and getting it dermatologist-tested + swiss engineered, they’ve finally created a perfect and wonderful new skin-changing item to enhance the 3-step system – the Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush, to deliver a whole new kind of clean!
The brush is meant to complement Clinique’s 3-step skincare system. Gentle on the cheeks while lifting makeup, dirt and oil that traditional hand washing may miss, the swiss-enginereed brush provides mechanical exfoliation to weaken the bonds, or “glue” between dead skin cells so that your skin can appear more radiant when the dead skin cells are effectively removed!
I was part of a focus group (not related to Clinique methinks, and it was good money to just talk beauty hehe) last month, and one of the questions asked was for us to bring/list down something that we think is innovative, a break-through item related or in the beauty world.
You’ll be surprised by how many people mentioned cleansing devices (from various brands), citing how much cleaner their skin feels and how it has helped them achieve better skin. Everyone at that table brought different items, but it seems that we all love trying new things and love gadgets which can help us save time, do something better or much more efficiently. If you’re like that too, this is something that you have to try out!
Let’s begin with the features of this new Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush:
Anti-microbial bristles = they stay clean, longer. The brush head is replaceable if you’re a stickler for cleanliness!
This slip on / off cap protects the bristles from going out of shape and keeps dirt and grime away while drying!
Firmer Green Bristles
Green bristles are firmer, and tapered at one end for deep cleansing (on areas like forehead, nose and chin)
Gentle White Bristles
White bristles are softer, gentler and are perfect for cleansing delicate areas like your cheeks!
View a video of how gentle this brush is on a flower (The other Nuffnang bloggers and I tried it out for ourselves and all of us went “WHOAAAA” when the wet tissue we used it on DIDNT BREAK at all.)
Well designed device
Lays flat on most surfaces, fits into your palm, and 30-sec timer means you won’t overuse it!
Lasts 180mins per full charge
At 30secs each cleanse, that’s 180days if you use it both day / night, which means 6 months PER charge!
One of the bigger problems I had with my other cleansers was actually storage – Some weirdly shaped ones laid in extremely awkward positions which was harder to dry, but this one lies flat on your sink both ways – which I find really handy, plus the small size means it’s not obstrusive!
Love how the cap protects it from getting dirty and keeps the bristles from getting out of shape even if you lay it downwards.
The Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing brush is small (fits into my palm) and light – which makes it an ideal partner for travelling! I brought it along with me to Penang, but the toilet wasn’t very presentable hence… no pictures of it in the lousy hotel haha.
At the event where were shown an exclusive preview of the brush, we were also matched by their advisors to a liquid facial soap meant for our skin type (step 1!).
I was obviously of oily skin type (that’s type 3/4 – type 1 is for very dry skin and type 2 is normal/combi skin) and was given this enjoyable face soap – enjoyable because I love minty anything (almost) and this gentle facial wash had a cooling effect due to the menthol in it!
We all got our very own brush to try and the first thing I did when I reached home was to give it a full charge!
IMPORTANT Things to note:
- Charge it for a full 24 hours before usage
- Use it once a day first, and when your skin gets used to it, you can use it both day and night
- It doesn’t rotate – instead it pulses for a gentler cleansing action as compared to rotating devices
- There is only one speed and one timer – 30 seconds
- White bristles for cheeks, green bristles for forehead, nose and chin
- REMOVE your make up first before using the brush to deep cleanse
- You can apply the soap directly on the bristles, but I prefer foaming it all over my face first then go on it with a dampened brush.
- Towel dry the brush a little after dampening it – if it’s too wet you’ll get sputtering droplets all over
- I use this in the shower so I don’t mind using it wet (too dry and you’ll get abrasion)
- Be GENTLE – there is no need to apply pressure; glide lightly in circular motion
- When the battery is low (3 hour / 180 mins battery life) the LED indicator will light up
I use one full pump to for cleansing my face and neck!
I’ve been using this for 2 weeks now, and the changes noticeable to my eyes are lesser clogged pores – cleaner nose, my forehead seemed to have stopped breaking out, and my overall skin tone radiance and clarity has improved! I don’t use it as much on my chin due to the hormonal zits I still have, but the other areas (cheeks, forehead, nose) seemes to radiate a certain kind of glow!
Extremely happy with the results and I’m hoping that my hormonal acne will back off one day, but in the mean time, I shall do what I can to keep the rest of my face clean and supple so that I don’t break out beyond those pesky hormonal zits!
At $149 SGD, it’s actually really affordable and a good price to start at if you’re new to such cleansing gadgets. It is definitely gentle on your skin (we’ve all tested it on a wet tissue – the tissue didn’t tear at all!), plus this is from Clinique, which heralds from a long standing history of being a dermalogical brand – 100% fragrance free and allergy tested means that it’s suitable for the most sensitive of skins.
You can the Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush (try it!) at all Clinique counters! Plus, get a free 10-day supply of their liquid soap customized to your skin type when you make a purchase. If you’d like to know more, check out the details here!
