Lily Collins & Penélope Cruz, my favorite Lancôme ambassadresses!

Wanna make a guess how old they are?

Lily Collins is 26 – which is the age one should start using anti-aging skincare, whereas Penelope Cruz is 41 this year! I’ve always loved how exotic looking Penelope Cruz is, but I really couldn’t guess that she’s 41, because she looks really well maintained (not just in ads) and has this youthful aura around her!

What makes a woman feel beautiful?
An exceptional light. The youthful aura.

I’ve been using Lancome’s products (both makeup and skincare) for quite a while now, and in the blink of an eye, I’m gonna turn 30 this year. I think you’ll see me repeating this a lot this year, but where has all the time gone?!

“From Europe to the US, China to Japan, the signs of youth described by women are the same – radiance, a smooth texture, even skin tone, firm contours, an absence of wrinkles etc. – though different cultures accord varying levels of importance to each. For an American woman, for instance, wrinkle-free skin is a priority, while in Asia women are more concerned by a fair, even tone.”

We Asians age differently from Caucasians – they tend to have thinner skin, and get fine lines + wrinkles earlier – whereas for us Asians, we are faced with the problem of pigmentation, uneven and dull skin. I’ve seen how my mom has switched from hydrating skincare when she was younger to skincare with promises of brightening and evening out skin texture – and I guess because I’ve inherited her genes, I have a pretty good idea of how I’ll age by looking at her and my family members!

3 Generation of ladies - my aunt (40's), grandma (late 60's), me (late 20's), my mum (early 50's) and my baby cousin (2 years old)!

3 Generation of ladies – my aunt (40’s), grandma (late 60’s), me (late 20’s), my mum (early 50’s) and my baby cousin (2 years old)!

Even my Grandma’s obsessed with brightening skincare – In fact, I’ve been sharing my Lancome skincare with them and my grandma, who cannot speak or read english, even asks me for the “little black bottle” whenever I ask her if she wants anything! (That, and Lancome’s UV Expert sunscreen which she loves)

Just last weekend, Candice (@makeup_box) mentioned that my skin looks much better these days (as compared to the days of a pimpled riddled chin/jawline), and I don’t say this out loud, but I was pretty pleased as I’ve finally gotten rid of the acne that has plagued me for so long!

However, after that battle with acne, I’ve been left with scars. That adds on to the uneven patches of slightly darker skin on certain areas of my face (due to a lack of sunscreen wearing when I was younger + my recent Phuket & Penang trips) as well as overall dullness in skin tone I was experiencing. I needed to brighten up my skin!!!

Since my acne was under control, I decided to amp up my beauty regime, one at a time. I picked up the Lancome Advanced Génifique – Youth Activating Concentrate again thanks to this campaign, used it out everyday for the past 2 weeks. It’s hard to take photos to compare, but I look into the mirror everyday you know and after 2 weeks, I’ve noticed that my skin looks brighter and that makes me happier!

Lancôme Advanced Génifique – Youth Activating Concentrate

Year 2009 – It took Lancôme 10 years of research to perfect Génifique, the first Youth Activating Concentrate inspired by advances in genomics and protemics. The iconic formula was tried and tested effective on women of all skin types, and has gone on to become one of Lancôme’s best-selling products and won over 130 prestigious international awards!

They continued the research, and with new understanding of the key biological functions of skin youth, improved the formula over the years and increased the efficacy of the Youth Activating Concentrate. In 2013, the new ADVANCED Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate was unveiled, giving one a more youthful appearance by working on six essential skin functions: unbalanced skin barrier, structure/biosynthesis, anti-oxidation, defence, exfoliation and hydration.

What the concentrate does

The Lancôme Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate targets the 10 signs of youth, categorized by visual perception (what you see) and tactile perception (what you feel).

They are:

Fine lines
Coarse Wrinkles

When my acne started clearing up, my skin was happy, but I felt like my skincare was missing a step – and after adding the Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate into the regime, my skin felt more supple, smoother, and as I mentioned earlier, I saw the brightening effect for myself whenever I looked into my mirror (without makeup on)!

The Lancôme Génifique is a pre-serum – it absorbs quickly, provides a moisture boost, and other than the abilities it already contains, it also increases the efficacy of the products you use after application by 3X!

So my routine would be like this:

Facial wash > Lancôme Blanc Expert Essence-in-Lotion > Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate > Serum > Moisturizer > Adv Génifique Yeux Light Pearl > Adv Génifique Yeux Eye Concentrate!

P.S. It’s important to finish off with a sunscreen, like Lancôme UV Expert Aqua Gel – which I’ve learnt my lesson from after witnessing the dark spots on my skin – It’s sunscreen for me everyday!

I love the texture of this, and it is picked up and dispensed in a hygenic dropper affixed on the cap. The usage is made even more convenient by the innovative self-loading function of the dropper cap – it reloads a single application’s dosage into the dropper when you twist it shut, so that you don’t have to press the dropper to reload it for your next usage!

A footnote though, while this works for me, I’ve heard of some people’s feedback where they get pimples after using this – cut your application back to just one time a day instead of 2, and that should work better! For precautions, you should probably get samples to try it out first, or go for a Génifique facial and see how it works for your skin!

You can head over to the website to learn more about the Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate, and even register and claim a 7-day trial of it!

I’ve done the Génifique facial a few times before, and I always come out with supple skin. It’s quite an experience, and you should try it out for yourself. Lancôme has facial cabins in Robinsons Orchard, and also in their latest standalone boutique in the newly renovated Capitol Piazza, which you should really check out because it has stunning decor!

Génifique All Stars

The Génifique trio is made up of 2 other complimentary products for another important area which shows the fastest sign of aging due to how delicate it is – your eyes. And I already LOVE Lancôme’s eye products even before I tried any of these! I feel that they are the most effective for me and I have serious eye problems.

Advanced Génifique Yeux Light-Pearl

The “Light-Pearl” part of the name came about because of the shape of the applicator – a tear drop shaped pearl affixed to the cap with a ball joint, which allows it to move around your eye contour with ease while massaging it at the same time!

I’ve been advocating this little bottle to my friends a lot actually, especially those who work long hours behind the computer and could do with a little massage to pamper the eye after a long day, or those with puffy eyes to help bring it down a notch in the morning! It’s such a treat especially if you store it in the fridge – but even if you don’t, the pearl applicator is still cool to the touch. Here’s a video of how to use the Advanced Génifique Light-Pearl applicator!

 Advanced Génifique Yeux Eye Concentrate

My first tested and effective eye product was actually the Renergie Multi Lift Eye Cream – and since I was already trying out the Advanced Génifique Yeux range, I gave this a try too! The consistency of this cream is lighter than a cream actually, more gel like and makes my eye area feel much more supple. The Advanced Génifique Light-Pearl has a more watery, serum-like consistency and I use the Eye Concentrate after the Light-Pearl at night as I sleep in an air-conditioned room.

The combination of using them both daily have reduced the fine lines which have crept up over the years very significantly, and with the Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Serum, they make a powerful trio to your skincare regime!
