SIMPLE’s latest Micellar Makeup Removers!

By | beauty, Makeup Removers, Skincare | No Comments

I’m sure you’ve seen this brand around before, but did you know where it came from and their philosophy?

SIMPLE hails from the UK, and they’ve been the experts in dealing with sensitive skin since their creation of the new perfume-free and colour-free soap back in 1960. Their philosophy of using only the purest skin-loving ingredients as well as staying colour-free and perfume-free has remained steadfast since 1960, and they believe that looking and feeling good should be Simple, not complicated!

I’ve had a brief history with this brand back during my teenage days – their gentle cleanser was a staple in my family bathroom for quite a while! Recently, they’ve launched their Micellar Water range of makeup cleansing products – Meet the Simple Micellar Water (in a bottle, 200ml) and Micellar Wipes (25 pcs in a pack)!

I have a thing for micellar cleansers – ever since my first experience with them, I’ve been mostly using micellar water for makeup removal due to how gentle and fuss-free it is.

Micelles are present in all cleansers actually, and are extremely effective in oil and dirt removal without being harsh to your skin. Of course, most micellar water removers will still require you to rinse off again – not that I don’t do that (it’s a habit to), but have you ever come across situations when you fall into a food coma and just want to sleep immediately upon reaching home?

IT HAPPENS TO ME ALL THE TIME.

And it happened to me just recently when I had my Simple Micellar Wipes lying around on my table – PERFECT! (You might have seen my spiel on Snapchat hahaha) I grabbed a piece of the cleansing wipe, removed my makeup in record time while lying down and then promptly fell asleep after. In peace. Without having to worry about make up removal or even walking to the bathroom!

Simple’s Micellar Water (in a bottle) and wipes both remove makeup without rinsing, and provides hydrating benefits (it will boost your skin’s hydration by up to 90%!) at the same time. I wouldn’t suggest not rinsing, but in situations like the one I’ve described above, or when you’re on a plane, or rushing through makeup changes – Simple’s make up wipes will come in so handy! It helps to unclog pores, and won’t leave the skin feeling tight or sticky – it promises to leave you feeling clean, refreshed and hydrated!

simple-skincare-uk-sensitive-skin-experts-micellar-wipe-water-16

What I like about Simple’s Micellar Water products – there are NO artificial perfumes, colours or harsh chemicals in them! They have instead, a whole bunch of goodies!

  • Triple Purified Water: Our purest possible water to minimize potential for irritation from extraneous particles or contaminants that can irritate skin.
  • Vitamin B3: Known to restore, soften and smooth skin. It’s especially great for those with dry skin.
  • Vitamin C: A water soluble antioxidant vitamin for skin
  • Hexylene Glycol: Helps dissolve make up and kindly conditions the skin

The Micellar Water is pretty efficient at what it promises to do – my skin doesn’t feel dry or sting when I use this (some Micellar Water removers contain certain additives which stings a little). It’s extremely good for sensitive skin, which is what I’m experiencing right now with all the breakouts I’ve been having lately.

I’ve found that the wipes cleanses well enough for days when you have light and non-waterproof make up on – it also exfoliates while saving you the trouble of finding cotton pads to use with micellar water at the same time!

They're priced very reasonably for such a great product - you'll find it easy to add it into your shopping cart because of how good a deal it is!

Atorrege AD+ For Troubled Skin

By | beauty, Cleansers, Makeup Removers, Skincare | One Comment

As someone with sensitive skin, I’m naturally wary of trying out new products. I guess it’s ironic – as a beauty blogger, it’ll be bad if I break out, but as a beauty blogger with sensitive skin, I wouldn’t be able to recommend products that work if I don’t even give them a try in the first place!

You’ll know when your sensitive skin takes kindly to a new product – your skin doesn’t feel taut after washing – instead, it’s comfortable, well-cleansed and in a good state for the next skincare application.

And that’s what happened when I tried out Atorrege AD+. My skin was pretty happy after using it! I’ve seen my fellow blogger friends speak about it before, and how it’s perfect for people with adult acne. That’s me – 30, and still popping zits every now and then. It’s annoying – I’m a beauty blogger, and I want to have good skin! STOP!

I was sent two of Atorrege AD+’s star products – the Mild Cleansing Gel (0) & the Face Wash Foam(1F)!     For those with normal/dry skin, you can use Face Wash Liquid (1) instead of Face Wash Foam (1F)

atorrege products

“Atorrege AD+ is a series of safe and high performance skin care products made in Japan that not only corrects modern skin troubles caused by changes in the environment but also strengthens skin against environmental damage. To deliver these benefits, Atorrege AD+ incorporates innovative nanotechnology that deeply penetrates the skin for maximum result. “

Atorrege AD+ hails from Japan, and as with most Japanese products, they are mild and gentle on the skin, but very effective. Their products are made with natural herbal extracts, and innovative nanotechnology, for today’s sensitive skin. They provide 5 safety assurances which are expecially important for sensitive skin –

  • No Fragrance
  • No Colourants
  • No Parabens
  • Allergy Tested
  • Internal Cellular Tested

The products also contains 2 main active ingredients for deep penetration – Hamamelis extract and Soybean Extract!

The Mild Cleansing Gel is marked as Step 0 - it's a make up remover.

The Mild Cleansing Gel ($59 SGD) is marked as Step 0 – It’s the first step before any of their skincare series, a make up remover.

"In the evening before washing, pour an appropriate quantity (about the size of 2 cherries) on your palm and spread gently over your entire face. Massage gently on T-zone area for 10 seconds, rinse with warm water."

“Before washing, dispense an appropriate quantity (about the size of 2 cherries) on your palm and spread gently over your entire face.”

"Massage gently on T-zone area for 10 seconds, rinse with warm water."

“Dispense product onto dry hands and onto dry skin. Massage gently on T-zone area for 10 seconds, rinse with warm water.”

To check on how efficient it is at removing make up, I later on took a cotton pad soaked with micellar water make up remover and swiped over my skin after I’ve rinsed. The results were satisfying!

Swabbed my face to check on how effective the make up remover was - It passed with flying colors!

The Japanese usually practice 2 step cleansing – that is, removing make up is the first step, and the second step is to remove excess sebum and dirt!

And for the second step, they usually use a foaming product – either it’s self foaming, or they foam the soap up with a foaming net, which takes a bit of time and work.

Thankfully, over at Atorrege AD+ they’ve developed a self foaming one and it’s the best I’ve ever tried for my sensitive skin!

The foaming facial wash contains Hamaelis & soybean extract, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, betaine and perilla extract.

The Face Wash Foam ($59 SGD) contains Hamaelis & soybean extract, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, betaine and perilla extract.

"Dispense 3 pumps of foam and use your fingers to massage your face and neck with the foam for 10 seconds. Rinse off with lukewarm water." It dispenses weakly acidic nano-cleansing bubbles that cleanses pores deeply and prevents formation of blackheads, giving you clear and radiant skin after using the product!

I’ve noticed increased clarity and less dull skin after using this for a week, and I’m intending to purchase my second bottle after I finish using this! Atorrege AD+ is available at all major pharmacies and departmental stores.

Making things more convenient for everyone and moving ahead with the times, Atorrege is now available online over at betime.com.sg! New signups will get a 20% discount, and on top of that, the Mild Cleansing Gel and Face Wash Liquid/Foam will get an additional $10 off automatically!

NEW: Nivea Make Up Clear

By | beauty, Cleansers, Makeup Removers, Masks, Skincare | No Comments

Do you really need a reason to be taking good care of your skin?

Having a good canvas to start with enables make up to go on smoother, and can provide you with a kind of natural radiance make up can never achieve!
It glows, shows, and it will definitely make you feel more confident (I know I do, especially having suffered from really bad skin a while ago!).

When I was younger, I didn’t really take care of my skin – I took it for granted, and that meant nights of sleeping with make up… resulting in terrible, angry red pimples from my clogged pores.

Believe it or not – I didn’t know how to use make up removers properly till I was in my 20’s.

And you’ll be shocked to know how many people in their late 20’s STILL don’t realize the importance of proper make up removal!
(Yes you know who you are and I’m talking about you, haha)

These were actually the top reasons of having problematic, clogged up skin as iterated by NIVEA during a presentation for their new Make Up Clear range.

Did you know that even if you have just sunscreen on, you SHOULD still remove them with a make up remover?
Products with SPF are formulated to adhere to your skin, making them more difficult to remove with regular cleansers!

Held at Top Deck in Upper Thomson, the decor was nicely done up and even the food had little NIVEA signs on them!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Okay sorry about the random food picture. Back to the make up removers!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The NIVEA Make Up Clear range consists of 4 different types of make up removers to address different purposes and needs:

For Light Make Up:

  • NIVEA Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Mud Cleanser
  • NIVEA Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Foam Cleanser

For Heavy Make Up

  • NIVEA Make Up Clear Cleansing Wipes
  • NIVEA Make Up Clear Micellar Water

A foam cleanser foams up and cleanses your face, Micellar Water Removers are non-oily but strips oil and dirt from your face effectively, while cleansing wipes provides portability and the convenience of not having to use an extra cotton pad.

We all know what a foam cleanser, cleansing wipes and micellar water removers are for and how they work – but how exactly does the NIVEA Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Mud Cleanser work?!

Surprise, surprise!

The Nivea Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Mud Cleanser is
actually a MUD MASK, MAKEUP REMOVER and a CLEANSER!

Are you as curious as I am to how it works? Thankfully for all the curious audience present, NIVEA had a little demonstration in store for us!

To demonstrate the effectiveness of the Mud Mask, they first mimicked what a made up face would have on their poster girl's arm - sunscreen, foundation, blusher, bronzing powder, and even eyebrow pencil!

To demonstrate the effectiveness of the Mud Mask, they first mimicked what a made up face would have on their poster girl’s arm – sunscreen, foundation, blusher, bronzing powder, and even eyebrow pencil!

It is purportedly able to remove 10 different kinds of make up, including;

1.  Make up base
2. Concealer
3. Foundation
4. Bronzer
5. Blusher
6. BB Cream
7. Powder
8. Brow Pencil
9. Tinted Moisturizer
10. Tinted Sunscreen

When I still was wearing contact lenses prior to LASIK, mud masking was much of a hassle as I had to take off my contact lenses right after removing my make up, which meant that my cumbersome spectacles would be in the way of masking, and smudging the mask all over – this Mud mask would have been my solution to this problem had I discovered it before my LASIK, because it can be used BEFORE make up removal!

Huh? Shouldn’t you remove your make up before masking?

Theoratically, yes – but the Nivea Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Mud Cleanser works differently!

  1. Use it as a mud mask;
Apply it over your made up face and leave it to sit for a bit! I typically leave it on for about 1 – 3 mins – you can also skip the wait if you’re in a rush!)Yes – you can use this without removing your make up first – unlike a nourishing mask used on clean skin, this mud mask can be used over makeup because it contains Kaolin clay, which is frequently used in cosmetics for its absorbent quality – it pulls out dirt and grime from your skin.
  2. A make up remover;
Next, wet your palms and begin massaging the mud mask – it will slowly turn a lighter shade as it removes make up from your face and as water is introduced.
  3. And as a facial cleanser!
Saving you from the need to use other cleansers after make up removal, the mask cleanser washes off and leaves you with clean skin! It contains Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract, also known as Liquorice, which has BOTH anti-inflammatory and whitening properties, and most importantly, Glycerin, which retains moisture, keeping your skin supple and hydrated!
After the last step, how well the Nivea Make Up Clear cleaned off make up was double verified by running both a piece of make up removing wipe and a cotton pad soaked with micellar water through it!

Jeng jeng! Results were obvious - both were spotless as the Mud cleanser has already done its job of make up removal effectively!

We had to give our thoughts on the make up removers after witnessing the demo and trying it out ourselves on my arm – I must say, at first impression, I was thoroughly impressed! So the first thing I did when I went home, was to try it out on myself, of course!

After washing off! Removal was easy but better if you used a sponge instead of your fingers for quicker washing off! And of course I had to test how effective it was, right? I wiped a cotton pad soaked with micellar water remover over my face and it was as clean as a whistle!

You might have noticed that I avoided my eye area – as mentioned, the mud mask is for light make up removal, which doesn’t include eye make up – and you shouldn’t use this on your eye area either!

NIVEA-Makeup-clear-mud-mask-micellar-water-6

For eye area make up removal, I employed the use of the Micellar Water Remover & Cleansing wipes!

The Make Up Clear Facial Wipes were soft, and textured for better make up removal and sufficiently wet!

I tried one on each eye and as I have lash extensions on, Micellar Water remover was the safest option, but the cleansing wipes were helpful as I could wrap it around my finger and didn’t tug at my lashes. There are many days when I don’t wear heavy eye make up due to the fact that I already have lash extensions on, so I found myself using the Nivea Mud Cleanser pretty often as a treat! (I typically prefer to wind down before removing my make up / going for a shower when I reach home hehe).

Thank you for the informative talk and coming up with such an innovative product, NIVEA!

A new, effective makeup remover in town – Bioré’s Micellar Cleansing Water!

By | beauty, Makeup Removers, Skincare | 8 Comments

As a perk to my other job (the one that provides me with all the make up to try on), I get to try various products to effectively remove them too! And I try not to, but I will always have my favorites – one of my favorite make up remover while I had lash extensions on, would be micellar water types. The gentleness of Micellar Water removers appealed to me greatly and I’m not kidding when I say that whenever I spot a new one, I feel like trying it!

What is Micellar Water, and how does it remove make up?

Make up cleansers come in different forms, and famously so in Biore’s extensive range of make up removers.

Biore's line of make up removers - cleansing oil cotton facial sheets, aqua jelly makeup remover, biore cleansing oil, biore cleansing gel and the latest - micellar water makeup remover!

Biore’s line of make up removers – cleansing oil cotton facial sheets, aqua jelly makeup remover, biore cleansing oil, biore cleansing gel and the latest – micellar water makeup remover!

My favorite before I had on eyelash extensions was Biore’s Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets – everyone has different preferences (I have friends who prefer oil, some who liked that the cleansing oil cotton facial sheets saved them from bringing along cotton pads, etc) but because I have to deal with swatching make up every other day and because of eye lash extensions (they do not recommend oil based removers), I’ve switched to micellar water removers!

The Micellar water remover revolution started in France, and it’s been a growing trend because of how effective and gentle a makeup remover it is, without leaving any greasy residue on your face! It has the consistency of water and feels like water.

And you might wonder, how does it effectively remove make up without oil? Well, Micellar Water contain micelle molecules, which are made up of…

Micelles are made up of surfactants, which has a hydrophilic head and a hydrophobic tail (basically, one end loves water and the other hates water)

Micelles are made up of surfactants, which has a hydrophilic head and a hydrophobic tail (basically, one end loves water and the other hates water)

so when they are all dumped in water, the hydrophobic ends will gather (because they hate water), with the hydrophilic heads forming a sort of shield around the oil tails - resulting in a oil in water micelle!

so when they are all dumped in water, the hydrophobic ends will gather (because they hate water), with the hydrophilic heads forming a sort of shield around the tails – and that forms a single micelle molecule!

To remove makeup, you have to pour micellar water onto some cotton pads, and gently swipe in upward motions to remove your make up. For eye makeup, press soaked cotton pad on closed eyes gently and wait for 5 seconds before wiping it off. biore-s   I use typically 2-3 cotton pads for my entire face, including lips, non-waterproof mascara and eyeliner! The number of cotton pads you use is a testament of how good your micellar water solution is – the better, the less cotton pads (and less friction)!

Cotton loves water too, so when the micellar water solution is poured onto a cotton pad, the oil loving tails grab dirt, makeup, and trap them.

Cotton loves water too, so when the micellar water solution is poured onto a cotton pad, the tails will grab dirt, makeup, and trap them!

* Typically, micelle molecules are made with oil tails – but Biore’s version is formulated without oil and is completely oil-free, but works the same way and is just as effective at dissolving & removing sebum, makeup and dirt!

I love this explanation of how Micellar water works: The easiest way to explain how micelle cleansers work is this: essentially, micelles are kind of like mute Pac-Man types that wokka-wokka-wokka-wokka up all the makeup and dirt off your face in a jiffy.” – source: iamaeautygeek

Why use Micellar Water, and why Biore?

Because:

  • It’s lightweight, gentle and suitable for all skin-types
  • They’re rinse-free, soap-less and oil-free
  • They leave no greasy, oily residue like oil cleansers; you feel clean and skin is non-sticky!
  • Biore’s formula contains anti-bacterial ingredients, this helps to reduce chances of breakouts
  • It is formulated with Natural Mineral Water from Northern Japanese alps to soothe your skin
  • Also has enriched collagen and white tea extract to give you brighter, softer and supple skin!

And my favorite would be that the Biore Micellar Water comes with a pump which means I don’t need to manhandle the bottle! That’s a plus point for me because I do a lot of swatching and sometimes my hands are already full of glitter! It’s obvious how you feel once you wipe off your make up – your skin feels clean, healthy and doesn’t feel tight at all – sometimes I even forget to wash my face and just continue playing with my phone for quite a while before realizing that I need to finish washing up and moisturize my face!

Me with a face full of make up. These days I have loads of concealer to hide my healing scars and also foundation that's good enough to cover my flushed skin. And not to mention that I love glitter on my eyes... and I use eyebrow mascara. So there's more things to remove!

I've even done a sticky/oil test with a sheet of blogger paper - even though it contains micelle (oil in water), there are no traces of oil left on your skin once you're done with it! The clear blotter paper proves it. And I have a super oily face so this is awesome!

In fact, I love using it so much that it’s been my go-to everyday since I got it. I’m already more than halfway through my bottle! biore-micellar-water-makeup-cleanser-2014-1
