Lancôme Génifique – Keeping that Youthful Aura

By | beauty, Eye Care, Serums & Others, Skincare | No Comments
Lily Collins & Penélope Cruz, my favorite Lancôme ambassadors

Lily Collins & Penélope Cruz, my favorite Lancôme ambassadresses!

Wanna make a guess how old they are?

Lily Collins is 26 – which is the age one should start using anti-aging skincare, whereas Penelope Cruz is 41 this year! I’ve always loved how exotic looking Penelope Cruz is, but I really couldn’t guess that she’s 41, because she looks really well maintained (not just in ads) and has this youthful aura around her!

What makes a woman feel beautiful?
An exceptional light. The youthful aura.

I’ve been using Lancome’s products (both makeup and skincare) for quite a while now, and in the blink of an eye, I’m gonna turn 30 this year. I think you’ll see me repeating this a lot this year, but where has all the time gone?!

“From Europe to the US, China to Japan, the signs of youth described by women are the same – radiance, a smooth texture, even skin tone, firm contours, an absence of wrinkles etc. – though different cultures accord varying levels of importance to each. For an American woman, for instance, wrinkle-free skin is a priority, while in Asia women are more concerned by a fair, even tone.”

We Asians age differently from Caucasians – they tend to have thinner skin, and get fine lines + wrinkles earlier – whereas for us Asians, we are faced with the problem of pigmentation, uneven and dull skin. I’ve seen how my mom has switched from hydrating skincare when she was younger to skincare with promises of brightening and evening out skin texture – and I guess because I’ve inherited her genes, I have a pretty good idea of how I’ll age by looking at her and my family members!

3 Generation of ladies - my aunt (40's), grandma (late 60's), me (late 20's), my mum (early 50's) and my baby cousin (2 years old)!

3 Generation of ladies – my aunt (40’s), grandma (late 60’s), me (late 20’s), my mum (early 50’s) and my baby cousin (2 years old)!

Even my Grandma’s obsessed with brightening skincare – In fact, I’ve been sharing my Lancome skincare with them and my grandma, who cannot speak or read english, even asks me for the “little black bottle” whenever I ask her if she wants anything! (That, and Lancome’s UV Expert sunscreen which she loves)

Just last weekend, Candice (@makeup_box) mentioned that my skin looks much better these days (as compared to the days of a pimpled riddled chin/jawline), and I don’t say this out loud, but I was pretty pleased as I’ve finally gotten rid of the acne that has plagued me for so long!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

However, after that battle with acne, I’ve been left with scars. That adds on to the uneven patches of slightly darker skin on certain areas of my face (due to a lack of sunscreen wearing when I was younger + my recent Phuket & Penang trips) as well as overall dullness in skin tone I was experiencing. I needed to brighten up my skin!!!

Since my acne was under control, I decided to amp up my beauty regime, one at a time. I picked up the Lancome Advanced Génifique – Youth Activating Concentrate again thanks to this campaign, used it out everyday for the past 2 weeks. It’s hard to take photos to compare, but I look into the mirror everyday you know and after 2 weeks, I’ve noticed that my skin looks brighter and that makes me happier!

Lancôme Advanced Génifique – Youth Activating Concentrate

Year 2009 – It took Lancôme 10 years of research to perfect Génifique, the first Youth Activating Concentrate inspired by advances in genomics and protemics. The iconic formula was tried and tested effective on women of all skin types, and has gone on to become one of Lancôme’s best-selling products and won over 130 prestigious international awards!

They continued the research, and with new understanding of the key biological functions of skin youth, improved the formula over the years and increased the efficacy of the Youth Activating Concentrate. In 2013, the new ADVANCED Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate was unveiled, giving one a more youthful appearance by working on six essential skin functions: unbalanced skin barrier, structure/biosynthesis, anti-oxidation, defence, exfoliation and hydration.

What the concentrate does

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The Lancôme Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate targets the 10 signs of youth, categorized by visual perception (what you see) and tactile perception (what you feel).

They are:

Fine lines
Coarse Wrinkles
Radiance
Clarity
Evenness
Texture
Resiliency
Tonicity
Firmness
Sagginess

When my acne started clearing up, my skin was happy, but I felt like my skincare was missing a step – and after adding the Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate into the regime, my skin felt more supple, smoother, and as I mentioned earlier, I saw the brightening effect for myself whenever I looked into my mirror (without makeup on)!

Usage

The Lancôme Génifique is a pre-serum – it absorbs quickly, provides a moisture boost, and other than the abilities it already contains, it also increases the efficacy of the products you use after application by 3X!

So my routine would be like this:

Facial wash > Lancôme Blanc Expert Essence-in-Lotion > Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate > Serum > Moisturizer > Adv Génifique Yeux Light Pearl > Adv Génifique Yeux Eye Concentrate!

P.S. It’s important to finish off with a sunscreen, like Lancôme UV Expert Aqua Gel – which I’ve learnt my lesson from after witnessing the dark spots on my skin – It’s sunscreen for me everyday!

I love the texture of this, and it is picked up and dispensed in a hygenic dropper affixed on the cap. The usage is made even more convenient by the innovative self-loading function of the dropper cap – it reloads a single application’s dosage into the dropper when you twist it shut, so that you don’t have to press the dropper to reload it for your next usage!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

A footnote though, while this works for me, I’ve heard of some people’s feedback where they get pimples after using this – cut your application back to just one time a day instead of 2, and that should work better! For precautions, you should probably get samples to try it out first, or go for a Génifique facial and see how it works for your skin!

You can head over to the website to learn more about the Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate, and even register and claim a 7-day trial of it!

I’ve done the Génifique facial a few times before, and I always come out with supple skin. It’s quite an experience, and you should try it out for yourself. Lancôme has facial cabins in Robinsons Orchard, and also in their latest standalone boutique in the newly renovated Capitol Piazza, which you should really check out because it has stunning decor!

Lancome's beautiful standalone boutique at Capitol

Génifique All Stars

The Génifique trio is made up of 2 other complimentary products for another important area which shows the fastest sign of aging due to how delicate it is – your eyes. And I already LOVE Lancôme’s eye products even before I tried any of these! I feel that they are the most effective for me and I have serious eye problems.

Advanced Génifique Yeux Light-Pearl

The “Light-Pearl” part of the name came about because of the shape of the applicator – a tear drop shaped pearl affixed to the cap with a ball joint, which allows it to move around your eye contour with ease while massaging it at the same time!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve been advocating this little bottle to my friends a lot actually, especially those who work long hours behind the computer and could do with a little massage to pamper the eye after a long day, or those with puffy eyes to help bring it down a notch in the morning! It’s such a treat especially if you store it in the fridge – but even if you don’t, the pearl applicator is still cool to the touch. Here’s a video of how to use the Advanced Génifique Light-Pearl applicator!

 Advanced Génifique Yeux Eye Concentrate

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My first tested and effective eye product was actually the Renergie Multi Lift Eye Cream – and since I was already trying out the Advanced Génifique Yeux range, I gave this a try too! The consistency of this cream is lighter than a cream actually, more gel like and makes my eye area feel much more supple. The Advanced Génifique Light-Pearl has a more watery, serum-like consistency and I use the Eye Concentrate after the Light-Pearl at night as I sleep in an air-conditioned room.

The combination of using them both daily have reduced the fine lines which have crept up over the years very significantly, and with the Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Serum, they make a powerful trio to your skincare regime!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

25 and above? Craving for that Youthful Aura? Do you want brighter looking, supple skin?

It’s a good time to try the Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate now!

From now till 31st August, the Lancôme Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate will be going for $98 (30ml) instead of the usual $130! Offer ends 31st August 2015 or while stocks last!

NEW: Nivea Make Up Clear

By | beauty, Cleansers, Makeup Removers, Masks, Skincare | No Comments

Do you really need a reason to be taking good care of your skin?

Having a good canvas to start with enables make up to go on smoother, and can provide you with a kind of natural radiance make up can never achieve!
It glows, shows, and it will definitely make you feel more confident (I know I do, especially having suffered from really bad skin a while ago!).

When I was younger, I didn’t really take care of my skin – I took it for granted, and that meant nights of sleeping with make up… resulting in terrible, angry red pimples from my clogged pores.

Believe it or not – I didn’t know how to use make up removers properly till I was in my 20’s.

And you’ll be shocked to know how many people in their late 20’s STILL don’t realize the importance of proper make up removal!
(Yes you know who you are and I’m talking about you, haha)

These were actually the top reasons of having problematic, clogged up skin as iterated by NIVEA during a presentation for their new Make Up Clear range.

Did you know that even if you have just sunscreen on, you SHOULD still remove them with a make up remover?
Products with SPF are formulated to adhere to your skin, making them more difficult to remove with regular cleansers!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Held at Top Deck in Upper Thomson, the decor was nicely done up and even the food had little NIVEA signs on them!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Okay sorry about the random food picture. Back to the make up removers!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The NIVEA Make Up Clear range consists of 4 different types of make up removers to address different purposes and needs:

For Light Make Up:

  • NIVEA Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Mud Cleanser
  • NIVEA Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Foam Cleanser

For Heavy Make Up

  • NIVEA Make Up Clear Cleansing Wipes
  • NIVEA Make Up Clear Micellar Water

A foam cleanser foams up and cleanses your face, Micellar Water Removers are non-oily but strips oil and dirt from your face effectively, while cleansing wipes provides portability and the convenience of not having to use an extra cotton pad.

We all know what a foam cleanser, cleansing wipes and micellar water removers are for and how they work – but how exactly does the NIVEA Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Mud Cleanser work?!

Surprise, surprise!

The Nivea Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Mud Cleanser is
actually a MUD MASK, MAKEUP REMOVER and a CLEANSER!

Are you as curious as I am to how it works? Thankfully for all the curious audience present, NIVEA had a little demonstration in store for us!

To demonstrate the effectiveness of the Mud Mask, they first mimicked what a made up face would have on their poster girl's arm - sunscreen, foundation, blusher, bronzing powder, and even eyebrow pencil!

To demonstrate the effectiveness of the Mud Mask, they first mimicked what a made up face would have on their poster girl’s arm – sunscreen, foundation, blusher, bronzing powder, and even eyebrow pencil!

It is purportedly able to remove 10 different kinds of make up, including;

1.  Make up base
2. Concealer
3. Foundation
4. Bronzer
5. Blusher
6. BB Cream
7. Powder
8. Brow Pencil
9. Tinted Moisturizer
10. Tinted Sunscreen

When I still was wearing contact lenses prior to LASIK, mud masking was much of a hassle as I had to take off my contact lenses right after removing my make up, which meant that my cumbersome spectacles would be in the way of masking, and smudging the mask all over – this Mud mask would have been my solution to this problem had I discovered it before my LASIK, because it can be used BEFORE make up removal!

Huh? Shouldn’t you remove your make up before masking?

Theoratically, yes – but the Nivea Make Up Clear 3-in-1 Mud Cleanser works differently!

  1. Use it as a mud mask;
Apply it over your made up face and leave it to sit for a bit! I typically leave it on for about 1 – 3 mins – you can also skip the wait if you’re in a rush!)Yes – you can use this without removing your make up first – unlike a nourishing mask used on clean skin, this mud mask can be used over makeup because it contains Kaolin clay, which is frequently used in cosmetics for its absorbent quality – it pulls out dirt and grime from your skin.
  2. A make up remover;
Next, wet your palms and begin massaging the mud mask – it will slowly turn a lighter shade as it removes make up from your face and as water is introduced.
  3. And as a facial cleanser!
Saving you from the need to use other cleansers after make up removal, the mask cleanser washes off and leaves you with clean skin! It contains Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract, also known as Liquorice, which has BOTH anti-inflammatory and whitening properties, and most importantly, Glycerin, which retains moisture, keeping your skin supple and hydrated!
After the last step, how well the Nivea Make Up Clear cleaned off make up was double verified by running both a piece of make up removing wipe and a cotton pad soaked with micellar water through it!

Jeng jeng! Results were obvious - both were spotless as the Mud cleanser has already done its job of make up removal effectively!

Even their poster girl's cleansed arm was obviously whiter than the other!

We had to give our thoughts on the make up removers after witnessing the demo and trying it out ourselves on my arm – I must say, at first impression, I was thoroughly impressed! So the first thing I did when I went home, was to try it out on myself, of course!

After washing off! Removal was easy but better if you used a sponge instead of your fingers for quicker washing off! And of course I had to test how effective it was, right? I wiped a cotton pad soaked with micellar water remover over my face and it was as clean as a whistle!

You might have noticed that I avoided my eye area – as mentioned, the mud mask is for light make up removal, which doesn’t include eye make up – and you shouldn’t use this on your eye area either!

NIVEA-Makeup-clear-mud-mask-micellar-water-6

For eye area make up removal, I employed the use of the Micellar Water Remover & Cleansing wipes!

The Make Up Clear Facial Wipes were soft, and textured for better make up removal and sufficiently wet!

I tried one on each eye and as I have lash extensions on, Micellar Water remover was the safest option, but the cleansing wipes were helpful as I could wrap it around my finger and didn’t tug at my lashes. There are many days when I don’t wear heavy eye make up due to the fact that I already have lash extensions on, so I found myself using the Nivea Mud Cleanser pretty often as a treat! (I typically prefer to wind down before removing my make up / going for a shower when I reach home hehe).

Stay Young with Dr. Young!

By | beauty, Cleansers, Masks, Serums & Others, Skincare | No Comments

I’ve finally stopped breaking out – right now I’ve pared down to the basics as the doctor has recommended – Cleanser, Retinoid Cream, Moisturizer and since this routine has worked for me for about a month plus (I’m just left with scars to  clear!), I reckon it’s a good time I look for products to introduce into my skincare regime! Screen Shot 2014-11-24 at 1.18.26 pm Korean skincare has been quickly becoming the choice for many – I mean, which Korean star have you seen with bad skin?! Even the boys’ faces are immaculate. Just a few weeks ago I was at a party and this girl was telling me about how she loves Korean skincare and uses mainly Korean skincare! And yes, her face was flawless even without make up. Dr. Young Skincare is the product of a group of 5 doctors’ advice – a mix of dermatologists, plastic surgeons – made to fortify and protect your skin from external environment damages. Their skincare contains NO animal origins / mineral oil, LOW preservatives, chemicals surfactants, artificial colorants and are HIGH in organic ingredients, botanical oil and natural water! It was first developed in 2008, and has been in Singapore since 2011 – Dr. Young currently has 5 main product lines to suit everyone’s needs: Screen Shot 2014-11-24 at 1.17.20 pm And here are the products I’ve picked to try out from their range!

{ AC OUT CLEANSING FOAM CREAM }

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA This fine foaming wash is formulated with Green & White Tea Extracts, and a mixture of 5 herb extracts such as:

  1. Glycyrrhiza Inflata Root Extract (aka Licorice, which whitens)
  2. Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract (reduces pigmentation activities)
  3. Artemisia Vulgaris Extract (anti-irritatant and anti-oxidant)
  4. Acorus Calamus Root Extract (anti-inflammatory)
  5. & Cnidium Officinale Root Extract (anti-inflammatory, skin regeneration)
Sealed for freshness!

Sealed for freshness!

The facial cream foams up pretty easily, and there wasn’t a discernable scent in this. It’s not overly drying but still gives you a clean feel – Or maybe I’ve been too used to my glycolic cleanser, it almost feels too clean for me. Nevertheless, looking at the ingredients it contains, it doesn’t look like a bad facial wash at all with all its anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant ingredients and may turn out to be good for you if you have occasional spots.

$31.90 SGD for 150ml | Tip: Rinse with lukewarm water and pat your face with cold water to give tension to your skin as a last step!

{ DEEP CLEARING CLAY MASK }

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA This mask has to be my favorite product of all! Unlike other clay masks which tend to sting a little, this deep clearing mask is actually quite soothing and doesnt irritate my skin – plus it doesn’t have too strong of a fragrance or smell! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA When it comes to masks, I prefer using a brush for more even application as compared to fingers – it’s also less messy this way to me! OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Let it sit for about 3-5 mins – allow the Ghassoul Clay (also known as Rhassoul, a clay mined from Morocco which softens skin, reduces sebum secretion and removes dead skin cells) and Dr. Young’s Phyto-Astringent (complex of Witch Hazel, Calendula and Ivy Extracts) to work their magic on your skin before washing it all off with lukewarm water before it dries up! My skin felt pretty nice and soft after using this and there was no irritation (redness, soreness etc) after washing it off – it’s a keeper! I love masking now since I’ve done vision correction surgery and can mask whenever~

$37.90 SGD for 65g | Tip: Apply Pore Tightening Serum on face after Clay Mask application to wholly remove pores and sebum.

{ BAMBOO BLOOMING BOOSTER }

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA An energizer serum that feels a lot like water, the Bamboo Blooming Booster is in the Special Care line and is oe of Dr. Young’s best selling products! It has anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects on the skin with ingredients like Prunus mume extract & Phytoncide, while Fermentation extracts (Fucogel 1000 & Koji Gastrodia Elata Blume Ferment) provides protection and hydration for the skin so that your next step of skincare will be absorbed easily. The Prunus Mume extract also aids cell renewal rates!

I use one full dropper for each application!

It doesn’t feel sticky at all – almost like water! I use one full dropper for each application.

$66.90 SGD for 50ml | Tip: Use Bamboo Blooming Booster in the morning and Pore Tightening Serum in the evening or vice versa to get better effect!

{ ANTI-PORE PORE ERASER BALM }

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA This tiny pot of pore eraser balm contains Swiss Alpine Herb & Witch Hazel Extracts, which controls sebum and tightens up pores – a little dollop (bean sized) is more than sufficient, and it keeps your skin soft, moist and matte all day long! I apply this to my nose and cheek area where my enlarged pores and oily parts of my face are to smoothen out the face and make sure that they stay matte longer, before I pat on powder. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I don’t usually use powder foundation because of my open pores – powder only serves to accentuate these pores even more which isn’t a pleasing sight. Dr. Young’s Anti Pore Pore Eraser Balm covers up all these little holes and creates a perfect, smooth canvas for my powder foundation! dr-young-anti-pore-eraser-balm-before-after Tried it on my hand first – It even conceals a bit of redness, so if your skintone is largely okay and you wish to use less make up, just apply sunblock + the eraser balm and you’re good to go! Then I tried it on my face – without the balm + powder, and with the balm + powder – the results were immediately obvious – the balm smoothened out all the little indentations on my skin and made my face silky smooth to the touch! dr-young-ant-pore-eraser-balm-before-after-powder

$40.90 SGD for 15g | Tip: Use it alone as base, or as a primer under your regular foundation if you need more coverage!

{ AC OUT SPOT STOP SERUM}

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The AC Out Spot stOp Serum comes in a handy size for you to stow away in your bag for emergencies (sometimes I wake up to a zit but have to rush out… that’s when!) and it can even be applied over make up!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It comes in a clear form, and there is an instant cooling effect upon application. It also seems to leave a coating over it (it’s more of a feeling your skin gets than to the touch) as it claims and I like it pretty much! These days my pimples are making lesser appearances, and they also heal faster, but it feels quite shiok to use this on zits anyway ; p It also contains Salicylic acid which as we all know, is often used to treat acne.

$37.90 SGD for 15ml

There’s one item I’m really interested to try out and it’s their newest product, the Complete Color Cushion from their Protect/Prevent range! (p.s. – I’ve reviewed it on my Dayre!) It comes with SPF50+ / PA++, doesn’t seem to have a pinkish tinge AND has quite good coverage as seen on this video!   dr-young-cc-cushion-before-after If that doesn’t make you want to buy it right now I don’t know what will! The Dr. Young CCC is going at $54.90 SGD and available for pre-order right now – get 10% off with discount code “DYCCC10”! Post23_CCCushionPreorder If you would like to try out Dr. Young’s range, you can do so during this festive season because they’ve come up with exclusive Christmas bundles on www.dr-young.com.sg, which will save you quite a fair bit! A new, effective makeup remover in town – Bioré’s Micellar Cleansing Water!

By | beauty, Makeup Removers, Skincare | 8 Comments

As a perk to my other job (the one that provides me with all the make up to try on), I get to try various products to effectively remove them too! And I try not to, but I will always have my favorites – one of my favorite make up remover while I had lash extensions on, would be micellar water types. The gentleness of Micellar Water removers appealed to me greatly and I’m not kidding when I say that whenever I spot a new one, I feel like trying it!

What is Micellar Water, and how does it remove make up?

Make up cleansers come in different forms, and famously so in Biore’s extensive range of make up removers.

Biore's line of make up removers - cleansing oil cotton facial sheets, aqua jelly makeup remover, biore cleansing oil, biore cleansing gel and the latest - micellar water makeup remover!

Biore’s line of make up removers – cleansing oil cotton facial sheets, aqua jelly makeup remover, biore cleansing oil, biore cleansing gel and the latest – micellar water makeup remover!

My favorite before I had on eyelash extensions was Biore’s Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets – everyone has different preferences (I have friends who prefer oil, some who liked that the cleansing oil cotton facial sheets saved them from bringing along cotton pads, etc) but because I have to deal with swatching make up every other day and because of eye lash extensions (they do not recommend oil based removers), I’ve switched to micellar water removers!

The Micellar water remover revolution started in France, and it’s been a growing trend because of how effective and gentle a makeup remover it is, without leaving any greasy residue on your face! It has the consistency of water and feels like water.

And you might wonder, how does it effectively remove make up without oil? Well, Micellar Water contain micelle molecules, which are made up of…

Micelles are made up of surfactants, which has a hydrophilic head and a hydrophobic tail (basically, one end loves water and the other hates water)

Micelles are made up of surfactants, which has a hydrophilic head and a hydrophobic tail (basically, one end loves water and the other hates water)

so when they are all dumped in water, the hydrophobic ends will gather (because they hate water), with the hydrophilic heads forming a sort of shield around the oil tails - resulting in a oil in water micelle!

so when they are all dumped in water, the hydrophobic ends will gather (because they hate water), with the hydrophilic heads forming a sort of shield around the tails – and that forms a single micelle molecule!

To remove makeup, you have to pour micellar water onto some cotton pads, and gently swipe in upward motions to remove your make up. For eye makeup, press soaked cotton pad on closed eyes gently and wait for 5 seconds before wiping it off. biore-s   I use typically 2-3 cotton pads for my entire face, including lips, non-waterproof mascara and eyeliner! The number of cotton pads you use is a testament of how good your micellar water solution is – the better, the less cotton pads (and less friction)!

Cotton loves water too, so when the micellar water solution is poured onto a cotton pad, the oil loving tails grab dirt, makeup, and trap them.

Cotton loves water too, so when the micellar water solution is poured onto a cotton pad, the tails will grab dirt, makeup, and trap them!

* Typically, micelle molecules are made with oil tails – but Biore’s version is formulated without oil and is completely oil-free, but works the same way and is just as effective at dissolving & removing sebum, makeup and dirt!

I love this explanation of how Micellar water works: The easiest way to explain how micelle cleansers work is this: essentially, micelles are kind of like mute Pac-Man types that wokka-wokka-wokka-wokka up all the makeup and dirt off your face in a jiffy.” – source: iamaeautygeek

Why use Micellar Water, and why Biore?

Because:

  • It’s lightweight, gentle and suitable for all skin-types
  • They’re rinse-free, soap-less and oil-free
  • They leave no greasy, oily residue like oil cleansers; you feel clean and skin is non-sticky!
  • Biore’s formula contains anti-bacterial ingredients, this helps to reduce chances of breakouts
  • It is formulated with Natural Mineral Water from Northern Japanese alps to soothe your skin
  • Also has enriched collagen and white tea extract to give you brighter, softer and supple skin!

And my favorite would be that the Biore Micellar Water comes with a pump which means I don’t need to manhandle the bottle! That’s a plus point for me because I do a lot of swatching and sometimes my hands are already full of glitter! It’s obvious how you feel once you wipe off your make up – your skin feels clean, healthy and doesn’t feel tight at all – sometimes I even forget to wash my face and just continue playing with my phone for quite a while before realizing that I need to finish washing up and moisturize my face!

Me with a face full of make up. These days I have loads of concealer to hide my healing scars and also foundation that's good enough to cover my flushed skin. And not to mention that I love glitter on my eyes... and I use eyebrow mascara. So there's more things to remove!

I've even done a sticky/oil test with a sheet of blogger paper - even though it contains micelle (oil in water), there are no traces of oil left on your skin once you're done with it! The clear blotter paper proves it. And I have a super oily face so this is awesome!

Clinique’s Custom Repair Smart Serum – Great Skin Can Be Created at Any Age!

By | beauty, Serums & Others, Skincare | No Comments

I’ve yet to blog about my trips back in March, and it’s already September. Which means… I turn 29 near the end of this month. Where did time go, seriously?! Okay, a little brief note about my skin since I’ve not done any update for the longest time ever:

I work long hours in front of the computer and in an air-conditioned room, which only meant that my skin’s definitely dehydrated. One day as I stopped myself from scratching my face, I realized that I needed something to supplement my current skincare regime! And et Voila – there was this shiny bottle sitting pretty on my table right in front of me like a sign (okay, I have an extremely cluttered table). It read…

Clinique’s Smart Custom-Repair Serum.

(No, I do not have flowers sitting randomly on my table, haha. I'm trying to distract you from the mess behind it!)

And what better than Clinique, which is a brand backed by dermatologists, to save the day? You know, as a beauty blogger, I do have tons of skincare within my stash to try out and pick from, but I decided to go with the Smart Serum because other than the fact that it was a brand created by dermatologists, their products are also allergy-tested and 100% fragrance free, which means lesser chances of reacting to it! I could definitely use that assurance now that I’m more careful about what I put on my face. clinique-custom-repair-smart-serum-6 And of course I did my due diligence – a quick check reveals that this product is highly raved by the unbiased purchasers on Sephora.com!

A 4.2 / 5 rating with over 15 pages of reviews!

And it wasn’t the only site with rave reviews – amazon, clinique’s own site, and many other reviews had nothing but good words for this product. Let me give you my first impressions before diving into the science behind it. clinique-custom-repair-smart-serum-5

*pumps a dollop into palms*

*rubs hands together to spread it out*

Serum is light weight, spreads easily!

*applies on face*

Serum settles on face quickly, and it doesn’t sting (score!), nor ball up into bits – instead, it actually smoothens out your face and skin texture. A quick slide of the back of my hand against my face and OH MY GOD what is that smooth feeling I haven’t felt in yonks?! I kid you not. At the point of application I didn’t read up about the product yet because I wanted to give an unbiased impression, and I already like it!

This particular powerful, yet gentle serum is a break through after 5 years in the making and that it is supposed to be intuitive enough to target all kinds of skin problems you may have at different ages. The lines that appear when you laugh and eyes twinkle with joy? Uneven skintone & dullness? My sagging jowls *ahem*.  This serum targets repair as needed, where needed!

The Clinique Smart Serum now has a spot on my frequently used shelf!

The Clinique Smart Serum now has a spot on my “frequently used” shelf!

I use this twice a day, both day and night after step 1 of your skincare (aka washing my face) and before I slather on moisturizer. There are times I forget to apply moisturizer after applying it because it’s just so smooth after using it alone!

Repairs damage you can see and the damage you cannot see

I’m sure Mr Bill McElligott never saw this coming – if not he probably might have loaded up on the sunscreen.

That dark spot you see on your face that wasn’t there yesterday? You think it happens in a day, but the fact is, it has already been under your skin for a very, very long time. Sun damage takes years to surface – a sunburn is instant, but the dark spots that seem to freckle old people’s faces? It takes years! And let’s not forget the premature aging it brings on as well – just look at Mr McElligott’s face! That picture was enough to shock all of us into wishing we had sunscreen to apply instantly when we saw it on a presentation slide.

I’m actually one of the ones who know all about sunscreen application but at times have forgotten about it – and I vow never to forget it again, please let me reverse some damage with Clinique’s Smart Serum please!!! T___T

Unlike other serums with loads of claims, little ingredients and no results, Clinique’s smart serum has a really long list of ingredients, and each of them have functions to target specific skincare concerns – for example, barley & cucumber extract works to calm down your skin so that you can build up your skin’s defences with their barrier-repairing ingredients and anti-oxidants, like mulberry root, wheat germ, rice bran and grapefruit extract. which helps to slow down the signs of aging.

Scutellaria baicalensis root extract inhibits melanin production to prevent you from turning dark, and a cocktail of peptides – Acetyl Hexapeptide-3 and Palmitoyl Oligopeptide encourages cells to function normally and healthily, and prevents wrinkles! Gentian Lutea & Salicylic Acid are anti-inflammatory and antibacterial, while Plankton/Algae extract locks moisture in!

I could go on and on – this serum seriously packs a punch with all these great skin caring ingredients in it, and the best part is that it comes in two sizes should you want to purchase a smaller one to try out! No chunk of text nor claims can convince me as much as how my skin feels – and it does feel wonderful with this serum so far!

My hands are often neglected - I wash them very often, especially after swatching. And heres the serum working its magic on my left hand! Compare it to the right hand which does not have any serum on it. No photoshopping, I swear. Doesnt it look much mroe radiant and smoother?!

Skin care do take some time to work, and it’s only been a week with this serum but so far my skin’s been happy! I personally think that this is Clinique’s best product yet, after their Laser Focus serum which had great results on my mum, who has very obvious photo damage on her skin.In fact, I think I’m gonna get her a bottle to try on my birthday, because she deserves all the gratitude, and good skin as well even at 50 years of age.
