About a month ago I came down with fever suddenly and had to miss out an event I was super looking forward to. It was the Heineken Cities Festival – a bar hopping experience along the streets of Ann Siang Hill & Club Street, to celebrate the launch of the 6 Heineken City Edition bottles named after the top cities of the world – Singapore, Amsterdam, Shanghai, London, New York and Rio De Janerio!
What happened at the Heineken Cities Festival in Singapore
If you’ve missed it, don’t worry – Here are some of the pictures from the event for! The streets along Ann Siang were packed with people (I had so many friends that were there and I could feel the vibe and fun from my Instagram feed!) and roving performances, from…
And the most impressive thing that I missed was probably the live mural painting! I would have stood there the whole night to witness this coming to live before my eyes!
It would have been so much fun if I could have attened the festival!
So when it so happens that there was gonna be a lunch gathering at my friend’s place, I insisted on bringing beer down and we brought bottles of Heineken City Edition bottles (which are limited edition!) down to my friend’s place!
Coincidentally, this event was a little international as well, haha. The host and hostess are from Malaysia (recently became Singaporean Citizens), and there was a Polish couple amongst us as well!
I have wonderful friends who cook so very well (and take cooking really seriously) and this time round, it was RAMEN! My ultimate favorite, if you can’t already tell haha. And the best thing to go along with ramen would be biiru (Japanese for beer), right?!
The charsiew – tied up and marinated and slow cooked for 30 hours, then pan-fried to charred perfection; the noodles painstakingly hand kneaded, rolled, and cut; the ajitsuke tamago (eggs with soft centre) soaked in soy sauce, mirin and sugar for 12 hours as well; the soup base, ahhh… ZERO MSG and absolutely flavorful!
Kudos to the wonderful hosts, aka the Au Yongs for making this such a fab lunch for all of us!
Don’t belittle the small bowl of noodles – it was just perfect for me! I wished I could eat more though because the noodles were so so so tasty! It didn’t taste too flour-y or powdery and it was just the right amount of firmness even after my 10 minutes of photographing before the meal!
After lunch was cleared, some of them proceeded to play card games while I sunk onto the sofa like a satisfied blonde potato. But the game piqued my interest…
Special thanks to Au Yong and Tsewei (link to ramen recipe!) for the fantastic lunch – I swear that it’s quite possibly the best I’ve tasted! and also for the company and laughter! People bond over many things, but most of the time, it’s food, laughter and beer! ; )
The Limited City Edition Heineken bottles (New York, London, Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai and Singapore) will be available at all bars serving Heineken till end September, while stocks last! You can also find them in various convenience stores and supermarkets – I got mine in Jason’s at ION Orchard! P.S. – The Singapore bottle will only be sold in Singapore, so grab a bottle to keep, now!
