Me and Maureen (aka @misstamchiak), the bloggers on the food trail with 40 others!

It’s probably hard for anyone to believe but… I have never stepped inside Chijmes before in my entire 29 years of living in Singapore. *gasp* If it wasn’t for Nuffnang’s Bloggerati and 8DAYSeat, I probably never would have known what a foodie’s haven Chijmes is!

First off, did you know that the mural in Chijmes, located right outside the restaurant Tatsu was painted (and then blown up) by local artists? ; ) Kudos to Parka and his friend Issac for the beautiful artwork!

I’ve loved reading 8DAYs since I was young – EVERY WEEK, haha! Their headlines always grab me and their interesting articles are always well-written with a dash of great humour, frank and more helpful than many other magazines and in the recent years, their eat section has been expanding – which lead to the development of 8DAYSeat App (available for both iPhone and Android), where you can find a directory of the local eateries they’ve reviewed, with their candid and honest opinion. The crowd meter is a very nice addition to the app, but we definitely need more people using the app! Download it now pleaseee so that we can put the crowd meter to some good use!

{ Here & There }

Chijmes #01-11/12/13/18 | Tel: +65 6333 0116

“Straddling the hours from lunch through to dinner,  HERE & THERE is first and foremost a Kushiyaki  Bar – another first where dining concepts go – with an all-day small plates bistro dining and café/bar grub menu thrown into the mix during non-meal timings.”

Kicked off the food trail at Here and There, which was also our meeting point!

we got to work pretty fast! I love it when people serve food fast and all at one go because then we don't have to wait OR make people wait. I actually really like taking pics and getting it over and done with so that we can still eat warm, nice food!

We had to move around pretty fast so I didn't get to taste all the food, but the Truffle fries here are a must try! They're a little salty, but oh so good!!!

{ Hakata Ikkousha Ramen }

Chijmes #01-07 | Tel: +65 6338 8460

“The New Pioneer, Kousuke Yosjimura, devoted much time to creating his original taste while maintaining traditional tonkotsu ramen. “Ikkousha” has the secret of its deliciousness – we frequently change pork bones in broth and ensure its delicious taste.”

Quickly shuffled to the next stop, which was Ikkousha Hakata Ramen!

Quickly shuffled to the next stop, which was Ikkousha Hakata Ramen!

Hakata ramen is my favorite – delicious tonkotsu broth and straight, thin noodles, like the ones from Ippudo! Prices start at S$5 for Gyoza (5 pieces) to $12++ for a bowl of basic Tonkotsu Ramen (without the egg) and $14++ for a bowl of Ajitama (that half-cooked egg) Tonkotsu Ramen, which i find to be quite reasonably priced.

I was really looking forward to trying this place out but I didn’t get much time here nor was I able to get a good picture (must be really good – everyone finished their food so fast!), so I’ll definitely return to try it out!

Ikkousha (博多一幸舎) hails from Hakata, and has a few outlets in Singapore - Tanjong Pagar, Changi Airport T3 and the latest outlet in Chijmes!

I arrived too late and didn't manage to try the ramen (and I was so looking forward to it!) nor get a good pic of it, so here's a pic of some pretty girls at the event hehehe.

Chijmes #01-08 | Tel: +65 6332 5868 | www.tatsu.com.sg

“Relish a distinctive dining experience at Tatsu at CHIJMES with an innovative concept that sees the restaurant serve Sushi by day, and Teppanyaki by night. Robust flavours emanate from seafood and prime cuts with a signature mix of specialty sauces and alcohol, while the chefs’ acrobatic cooking performances keep guests entertained.”

The sushi & teppanyaki restaurant is set in a U-shaped seating arrangement... and here you can see the foodies hard at work!

Senior Chef Kelvin put up a spectacular show of lobster grilling and knife throwing - and seasoning canister tossing, much to our (camera's) delight. It is quite the visual feast, but be warned that you will walk out with a cooked food smell on your clothes and hair!

Live Lobster - in special sauce! So well cooked, and as if it's not fragrant enough, it's served with a serving of fried shallots to accompany at the side!

Other than the lobster dishes, Tatsu also serves Beef and an array of other dishes for Teppanyaki – you can view their menu on their website or refer to 8DAYSeat App for user reviews on the place! I missed out the Grade A4 Flambe Wagyu Beef and I heard it was really good. Right now I am just really sad about missing out on all the good bits! And yes, I’M COMING BACK FOR TATSU FOR SURE.

*** Take note that Teppanyaki will not be available in the afternoon on weekdays!

One of my favorite couples, Yilond and Miya! Miya is slightly allergic to shellfish (especially if it's not fresh) but she had no problems because the Lobster was FRESHLY cooked, and I was soooo glad!

{ Shirokiya Japanese Healthy Dining }

Chijmes #01-05/06 |  Tel: +65 6337 5188  | www.shirokiya.com.sg

“Shirokiya provides food excellent for your health and beauty with traditional Japanese seasoning using salted rice malt. It enhances the savory flavor of food and has effects such as anti-aging which is beneficial to your body. Shirokiya’s menu uses ingredients containing collagen, hyaluronic acid, capsaicin, and lycopene.”

Collagen Hotpot! I guess it's not so uncommon in Singapore anymore - since we're such lovers of steamboat, why not one with added beautifying benefits? Couldn't hurt that this didn't taste much different from the typical Japanese nabe as well! p.s. I've heard from the foodies at the table that the soup for this one isn't as thick or starchy feeling as the other restaurants serving collagen hotpots!

I guess it’s not so uncommon in Singapore anymore – Shirokiya has another branch in Cuppage, which is famous for having a variety of Japanese eateries – since we’re such lovers of steamboat, why not one with added beautifying benefits? Plus, this didn’t taste any less savoury from the typical Japanese nabe which I enjoy!

Shirokiya obviously doesn’t just serve steamboat / hotpot – just check out their website to go through their EXTENSIVE menu! I love places which upload their menus on the website and Japanese ones always tend to be so interesting, and the pictures are so well taken too!

{ Oyster Bar & Wine Dining Wharf }

Chijmes #01-19 |  Tel: +65 6332 6789 | www.dinelike.sg/wharf

“Oyster Bar & Wine Dining wharf serves exclusive selections of oysters imported from all over the world into Singapore to provide superb quality for all guests. Due to their strictness in quality, “wharf” is proud to present an international range of oysters of great quality to all their guests.”

Sometimes I chuckle to myself when I read Japlish – no offense please, it’s really cute to me! This particular joint is owned by 2 Japanese bosses… which actually speak better Chinese than English! This is not their first outlet – they have a total of 3 restuarants with slightly different concepts – Oyster Bar & Grill at Robertson Quay, Oyster Bar & Sushi in Sentosa and this one’s a Oyster Bar, Wine & Dining place! Actually it’s rather obvious by the restaurant names I guess, the common denominator is that they all serve Oysters – check out the different outlets’ offerings and all at their website!

Now the shocker - I... don't take oysters hahaha. But they were really fresh, good and the foodies at the table polished them off VERY quickly!

They also served an array of main courses and small bites - this was their beef main course, done medium I believe, and it's soooo good with the sauce!

We actually went back again and tried out their other dishes - I loved the Paella, which was done really well! The rice was just nice, not too salty and complimented the seafood well. Prawn trio, and my Prawns & seared Scallops dish which was seasonal - it's till Nov 30th! I'm really happy with this dish because it was served with SWEET POTATO!

Did I mention that they serve 100 different kinds of Mojitos? This is Iji-san proudly showing us the wide variety they have - I'm super impressed with the menu because they have meters showing you how dry / sweet the wines / mojitos are! I found that a very nice touch for the people who are unaware.

Our Mojitos - tbe alcoholic taste isn't really strong and it's quite light which is great cos I've been reduced to a light drinker and was also driving that night. Don't expect this to knock you out! Order wine instead if you're in the mood for imbibing.

Once again missed out the food at this place but it's so nicely decorated! One of the more photogenic spots really and I love the black, chic interior against the wooden tables inside. It's a really cozy place for chilling out and they serve a good variety of wines and drinks!

Harry’s dining menu also features a range of delectable treats with international offerings, carefully executed to suit every taste.”

“Savour a taste of boutique Arabica coffee from Dimbulah that’s naturally sweet, with chocolate and caramel flavor notes. Originating from North Queensland, the café’s fifth store at Chijmes offers a daytime café menu and a small plate menu for the evening, complemented by espresso cocktails and great Australian & NZ beer and wines.”

And the last food stop for the day was Dimbulah, which serves fine quality coffee from Australia along with other nosh like Tiramisu and pasta! They have both an air-conditioned indoor and open outdoor area which has good natural lighting all around for you to take pictures of food in the day!

Dimbulah marked the end of our food trail and it was back to Here & There for prize picking and a debrief!

Congrats, Leanne! There was a competition running throughout the entire food trail and it was hard, but the 8days team and the bloggers picked out a few winners for the best reviews on the 8DAYSeat App, and the best #foodporn & #onthetable shots! Lucky winners got to walk away with $50 vouchers from the participating establishments and there were definitely some happy faces at the end of the satisfying food trail!

Everyone on the food trail! It was really great fun, let's do this again soon... but this time round can I be just a participant? Hehe

Everyone on the food trail! Lavinia Tan from Gold 90.5FM was an engaging and great host too!

It was really fun, and I hope we’ll have an opportunity to do this again soon… but this time round can I be just a participant? Hehe. But really, do look out for more food trails coming your way on your copies of 8days / i-weekly! I view mine via the digital version, subscribed from Magzter and I honestly prefer doing it this way as opposed to the physical copies cos I always can’t bear to throw them away!

The food trail has ended but I find myself considering the restaurants in Chijmes for my dinner sessions these days! There are just SO many choices there and all the restaurants are so nicely decorated! I was thinking of bringing my parents to Lei Garden Restaurant, or even On-Yasai. My dad loves Japanese food but my mom prefers Chinese and doesn’t take raw fish, so actually Shirokiya isn’t a bad choices too… Ahhh deciding where to go is a difficult thing itself hehe. It’s a little more quiet on weekdays I believe so you can have your lunch/high tea in peace, and a little more crowded during weekends but the parking was still easy enough for me.

I was running around in the Daeshia striped shirt dress from Love, Bonito that day! I think Chijmes is especially beautiful at Sunset, against the lights at Prive restaurant… Thank you Ron for helping me take these pictures ; )
