Over the weekend, I had brunch at Halia’s which was at the Botanic Gardens with the husband and a friend. It looked like a sunny day out so I brought along a cap to shield myself out from the sun’s merciless rays but when we reached Botanic Gardens, it was gloomy and all so we brought an umbrella out since we needed to walk quite a distance from the carpark to Halia’s.

The food was great! Finally got to try their Chilli Crab Spagetthini and also the Halia Infusion (iced ginger tea with wild honey) was refreshing and woke me up since I was up quite early. Their bread basket was also wonderful – everything tasted good and like what my friend said, it must’ve been one of the best bread baskets I’ve ever had!

Inbetween the span of the hour spent there though, the weather turned from Sunny > Drizzling > Sunny > Drizzling! Gah… It was really confusing as it was hot one moment, then wet the other! Luckily I’ve got a brolly with me which protected me from either element the crazy weather was bestowing upon me.

As I was walking back it suddenly started drizzling – I opened up my gigantic umbrella (which always gets attention cos I’m small and huge umbrella is huge), then it hit me that I’ve never been this ridiculously “protected” from the sun before – I’ve got BOTH my CAP and a huge UMBRELLA!

How do you protect yourself from the sun? I just got a 2 hit combo unknowingly, hahaha

You know, we always emphasize about the importance of using sunblock – but usually I just apply that on my face and that’s the end of it. I never really gave a thought about it until one day I realized that my foundation shade matched my face, but not my body! Yikes.

I always try to stay indoors if I can (unless I’m overseas) especially in Singapore because it’s so sunny – but I’ve totally forgotten about the sun that gets to me while I’m driving… in the comfort of my trusty car! D:

No wonder my arms and legs are always much darker than my face : (

And as I age, I realize that I’m starting to have slightly flaky, itchy legs! I always wear short shorts so my skin is exposed to quite a lot of sun and all the other external factors – I’d be super upset if I can no longer wear shorts due to unsightly legs!

In a bid to make myself fairer… I’ve started using the Nivea UV Body Whitening Serum very frequently since the day I got it!

The NIVEA BODY UV Whitening Serum is the latest in Nivea’s range of products – it offers UVA and UVB cell protection with SPF 25 PA++, an upgrade from their previous SPF 22 formulation! It is enriched with Licorice which enhances and supports the skin renewal process and gives you a fairer skin tone, as well as Hydra IQ and Red Seaweed to produce smooth, glowy and supple skin!

I like the flip top tube as opposed to a pump bottle as this means that I can bring it around without accidentally dispensing some.

And the most important ingredient included in this lightweight and deep absorption serum formula with no sticky after-feel, is the natural Vitamin C from Camu Camu, a type of berry which “contains powerful phytochemicals with health benefits, including the amino acids serine, valine, and leucine, and more Vitamin C than any other known plant in the world (read article here)!

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps in the reduction of melanin production to lighten skin naturally – it penetrates deeply to repair and restore the 10 signs of accumulated dull and sun-damaged skin.

I even wanted to apply this on one leg and then try it out for 14 days to see how effective it could be (experiments are always fun!) then I decided against it as I didn’t want to have one black and white leg like piano keys -_-” But aye, I did notice that my one leg was fairer immediately after application!

And it smells good, too!

The whitening serum is just slightly viscous but runny – it feels more like a light weight gel, and spreads well. It is also quickly absorbed into a body and I use two generous dollops, about the size of two strawberries for my legs! It is best to apply this straight after you shower so that you lock in moisture quickly, as well as get protection even when you’re indoors!

I got two tubes of this, so I keep one at home and one in the car just in case I need to get out in a rush and forget to apply it!

In my car's glove compartment: emergency make up (one pouch), medical supplies (another pouch), mouthwash (not pictured lol) and even a bottle of 如意油 if you can spot it! I consider it my emergency medical item in case of stomachaches! And how I have a body cream to complete my glove compartment necessities!

NIVEA has been a long trusted brand and I always see this brand around – at my own home, my grandma’s home, etc – their products have been proven to work really well (case in point: read this article) and for their friendly price point, it’s definitely not damaging to your pockets if you want to try!

The NIVEA UV Body Whitening Serum retails at S$10.90 for a generous 200ml of product. Available at all personal care stores and supermarkets, including Watsons, Guardian, Cold Storage, NTUC Fairprice outlets and major retailers!

Currently I protect myself phone the sun by staying away as much as possible. I’m not e outdoor person by fair and I normally spray on a block but I only do it in the morning, and it wouldn’t last the whole day ):

I’m going to Australia to study soon, and we all know how strong the sun is there. I love nivea protection- but I hated the smell and texture. So id be using this there if I win!

The weather in Singapore is scorching all year round. Thus when im going out from my comfort home, sunblock for face with at least SPF 50+ is a must in my skincare routine. As for my body, I did not pay as much attention towards sun protection. I hope I can win this giveaway and give my body a treat and protect it against the harmful UV rays!

Who wants their skin to be fair and stay hydrated? I DO!!
    Thanks <3

  • How I protect myself from the sun?
The weather in Malaysia is no difference in Singapore. When the sun is up, I can definitely feel the UV ray and the heat just burning my skin..making it dry. I always wanted to be really fair like those foreigner skins so I can wear whatever clothes prettily, so I have been using Nivea whitening lotion! I’ve been using the old packaging one and works wonders! Love Nivea so much!

I normally apply my sunblock in 2 layers on my face because I read in a magazine that we need a bigger amount than the amount we normally use which will be too sticky if we apply in 1 layer. ^^ As for my body, I try to wear clothing that cover as much of my body as possible heh.
