On my most recent trip to Melbourne, I was asked “Why do you take pictures of everything? Not tiring ah?”
That came from a group of people who take the most wonderful pictures with their cameras as well, and would probably be the ones who would understand me most when it comes to picture taking, so I know they’re not mocking me, but really trying to understand why.
I paused for a while, and thought about it.
I don’t really post every single picture I take with my camera on my instagram or blog, but I take plenty of pictures. Scrolling back through my photos from the last trip, I slowly recalled everything that happened during my previous Melbourne trip.
The sights, blue skies, the sound of the tram, the bustling city, the good food, the great weather, and most importantly, how I felt when I was in Melbourne the previous time. Things that I might have forgotten in my short term memory, but not in the back of my mind.
“Memories.”, was my answer.
Taking pictures – it’s my way of making sure that I don’t forget things. Sort of like an extra brain, my SD card contains my precious memories, captured. They just needed to be pulled out of my mind castle with the right jolt. These pictures do the trick, it’s more than just a visual. Be it digital image files or physical prints, they bring back memories and experience. Things you might have forgotten… and things you don’t want to forget.
Got reacquainted with a brand I have a lot of love for – Make Up Store. I was first captivated by their eyedust and shimmer back when I just started beauty blogging, and it’s no surprise that I’m updating my cobweb of a blog with some eyeshadows I’ve found lovely to use!
Make Up Store Moonshadows in Copper & Mahogany
The two moonshadows I’ve used in this look are from two different summer collections – Enigma, and Mystic.
Make Up Store Summer 2016 – Mystic
Make Up Store Summer 2016 – Enigma
The Make Up Store Moonshadow’s a new addition to their already spectacular range of eyeshadows – microshadows, cybershadows, stardust (replacing the eyedust) and it is simply amazing. Moonshadows are pigmented, long lasting and holds a unique design – a base color, with two other colors sprinkled across it. This means that you can mix two or more colors for a customized color, and that you can use one single moonshadow to create a dimensional eyeshadow look if you wished to.
The colors you can pull off from just one palette… (Left, Copper. Right, Mahogany)
Left, before make up. Right, after using Make Up Store’s Ultra Light Foundation in Leche.
The Moonshadows lasted really well throughout the day (this close up shot was actually after 6 hours and an eyelash extensions outside) – and I had on their eyeliner in Awesome Performance as well, which compliments the orange-copper base I had on.
I also used a bit of the purple shimmer from the Mahogany palette in the middle of my eyelid, and finished off the look with their Make Up Store Lipstick in Nude Beige, a creamy nude which was perfect for this!
Had a great meal at Beauty In A Pot over at ONEKM – Other than their very obviously great collagen broth, I also love their mala (it’s a bit more herbal than spicy) and we all loved how we did not end up smelling like cooked food at the end of the session because of their fantastic ventilation! Props to the Paradise group for being so thoughtful.
Mum: “Wah I look big in the photo!”
Me: “But you are big what… NO MORE SODA FOR YOU.”
Someone messaged me on SnapChat and said that my mum has pretty hair, like mine. I laughed and said that we both have the same unruly, curly hair.
Yup, I inherited my curls from the woman who sacrificed all the fun she could have by giving birth to me at a tender age of 21 years old.
I know right, it’s been so long since I’ve blogged beauty. It’s a little late, but these products are pretty evergreen, and it’s probably one of my favorite Sephora loot to date!
Packed with products to make you look all primed and glowing… presenting:
Saying that I’ve received a ton of stuff in my mail is an understatement – everything looked so interesting that I couldn’t wait to try everything out! (I practically made myself go out everyday just so that I can put some makeup on, hahaha)
A box of Burberry Makeup – containing their latest Fresh Glow primer, Face Contour Pen and Burberry Kisses Sheer lipsticks which are exclusive to Sephora ION!
Swatches of the Fresh Glow primer, Face Contour Pen and Burberry Kisses Sheer lipstick!
NARS’ Radiance Enhancing Light Optimizing Primer, their Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, Creamy Concealer & their Pressed Light Reflecting Setting Powder!
The Radiance Enhancing Pro Prime Light Optmizing Primer comes in white and contains a very sheer and fine amount of shimmer.
The Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (in Alaska 02) was runny and seems to be best applied with fingers! I tried using a brush and it didn’t give me as much coverage as using fingers. This comes with SPF 30PA+++ and the combination of both the primer and this tinted moisturizer made it feel like there were too much on my skin – I had to tissue blot it before applying powder.
NARS’ radiant creamy concealer is one of my favorite – especially Custard, because it’s perfect for my under eye circles. It spreads extremely well as it’s pretty emollient.
They may look pretty yellow on my arm but it works extremely well at correcting the redness on my face! I guess this was an acceptable shade for me – I’m pretty amazed by the shade selection by the Sephora marketing team! So far it’s been spot on!
The NARS light reflecting powder came in handy pouch with two slots, which contained…
A sponge! With a smooth side (logo embossed)
and a soft, velvety side to apply the powder! I love this because it makes the entire thing very compact!
Nude Lipsticks! *heart shaped eyes* These are from NARS’ Audacious Collection, Anita & Brigitte!
Sephora Rouge lipstick in shade Charmer!
Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Invisible Undercover – Perfecting Coconut Face Primer comes in a matte glass bottle and its a joy to hold! The coconut smell is pretty strong to me – and that’s because it’s made from 5 kinds of coconut! “The coconut water-derived polysaccharide complex mirrors the effect of synthetic priming ingredients, allowing your skin to breathe without compromising the skin-perfecting benefits.” This nourishing primer ensures smooth application of makeup over it!
Sephora’s IT Nude Palette may seem to be just another nude palette, but the shades are extremely gorgeous and this palette is a definite keeper! You need to swatch this for yourself in Sephora – and you will definitely feel like bringing one home after that! It comes with a double ended brush, as well as a complimentary eye liner pencil.
It folds into a pretty and well cushioned pouch-like case.
Other than the fabulous make up which made me a very happy girl, I also got a cold pressed juice (Earl Grey Nut Mylk by Gorilla Press), a tee shirt & a set of red packets!
And on top of all these, one of my favorite practical gifts – a customized Bynd Artisan notebook! I’ve always loved their customized stuff, especially the leather ones! You can find them in Tangs (Orchard/Vivo), as well as attend workshops/classes at their ateliers (in Holland V/Boon Lay)!
After a month or so of trying out all these products, I’ve naturally selected a few favorites – basically things that I’ve been reaching out for very often the past month, and that would be the Burberry Face Contour Pen, the Sephora eyeshadow palette and the NARS concealer in Custard!
The colors on the eyeshadows are too pretty to be missed, and blends so well on my eye socket – it defines my eye area well, and doesn’t easily end up making anyone looking like a racoon. Basically it’s an easy to use, everyday palette. Score!
Burberry’s Face Contour Pen is just SO easy to use on the go. You don’t need a brush when you’re on the go – just this pen, and your fingers. You can contour your nose bridge easily with this, and in fact can be used on the eyes as well! Here’s a video from Burberry for demonstration:
The NARS powder and the creamy radiant concealer have been favorites of mine since I’ve come across them, so no surprises or new notes there. I’ll be back soon with more updates on the latest cushion foundations that have been popping up EVERYWHERE… Till then!
I came to be acquainted with the owners of Free The Robot / Bitters & Love recently, and being the superficial person I was, fell in love with the handsome star of Free The Robot… their dog, Baileys! I was so smitten with his cherubic puppy-like face that I had to make a trip down specially for him, never mind the ERP fee and that it’s rather hard to park, haha. (FYI, he only makes an appearance on some Thursdays!)
They’re open on Saturdays too!
The delightful illustrations at Free The Robot were done by a friend of the owners!
Robots, robots everywhere – near the payment counters, on their cups, and their walls!
Free The Robot – cafe by day, turns into bar Bitters & Love by night! It’s actually sectioned out, so the cafe is one half of the restaurant and the bar is the other half. Free The Robot (FTR) seats around 25 – 30pax inside comfortably, and business seemed to be pretty good and brisk during lunch hour. With the boarded up facade (the entrance is really just a small door), this place makes for a good hideout place from the maddening lunch crowd around the area!
The draw of this place isn’t just Bailey’s though – FTR, though small, is actually full of photo opportunities for your Instagram feed or Facebook albums – from the drawings on the boarded front entrance, to the concrete walls inside the cafe, the wooden tables… the only tough thing to do was to find that prized seat in front of your favorite part of the wall mural!
The menu’s rather reasonable, at $5 for a sandwich to $14 for a big breakfast! And where else can you find a wagyu burger for just $12? *licks lips*
You order & pay at the counter, then grab a seat with a wooden cup bearing your table tag!
Baileys: “Where’s my mummy?” Baileys even has an Instagram account of his own, at @whereisbaileys!
Cold Pressed Juices! I love ginger almost anything. Apple Ginger was a great wake-up juice! Love that the balance was just right – not too much ginger, but enough to provide a certain kick.
Truffled Fries (sides)
FREE THE ROBOT BURGER – Homemade Beef Burger, with sunny-side egg, pickles, tomato, melted cheese and bacon – all for just $12! I loved this – I don’t usually like tomato, but it complimented the burger so well! And I’LL TAKE ANYTHING THAT COMES WITH AN OOZING EGG YOLK. P.S – You can specify how well you want your burger to be done!
Recommended: Pan-seared Shoulder Beef Tenders Salad with Sous-vide Egg (Additional $3, but YUMS!) and Avocado (another additional $3!) P.S. If you find the beef too raw for you, you can specify how well done you want it to be too! But this was perfect for me – and I love the raisins!
Dine in, or to-go… your choice!
FTR serves coffee as well!
Baileys stole the hearts of everyone at the cafe! But he’s only there on Thursdays mostly. Nawwwww!
Thank you Reenie for checking out this place with me! It was a rainy Thursday well spent ; )
Bitters & Love’s entrance is actually at the back door of FTR – and you can identify it with a drawing of Baileys by the door!
