Shu Uemura Petal Skin Foundation

By 14 April, 2017Life

I know I haven’t been posting much, but I’ve been trying new products, and when there’s one that’s worth a shout out… a shout out it’ll get!

I love, love love foundation. My most recent love was Shu Uemura’s Blanc:Chroma Brightening UV Cushion Foundation, which went almost everywhere with me because it was so easy to touch up. I eve renewed my love for it (purchased refills). Twice.

And before my romance with the Shu Uemura Blanc:Chroma Brightening UV Cushion Foundation was even over, another contender appears!

My latest foundation love: The Shu Uemura Petal Skin Liquid Foundation

Meet the Shu Uemura Petal Skin Foundation.

The Shu Uemura Petal Skin Foundation ($68 SGD) is available in a total of 11 asian-tailored shades, which is the biggest reason why I always reach out for Shu’s foundations above all others – because it suits my yellow undertones so well! I tend to have a lot of red vessels showing, especially around my nose and chin area – the foundation effectively covers them up and leaves me with a radiant, soft glow.

I’m 764 for most Shu Uemura foundations, which is a medium light beige.

It’s formulated with botanical oleo-veil to soothe, white jasmine which boosts clarity for a bright & radiant complexion, white lily extract to hydrate and sits on the skin so well – it minimizes pores, is comfortable throughout the day, and feels like you’re wearing nothing!

I like my foundation softly matte and not too dewy, and I find that the Petal Skin Liquid Foundation hits the sweet spot. It’s hydrating, but has a semi-matte finish which is natural. I still use a powder to set everything after applying concealer on my undereye area and acne marks, and for this I use the Shu Uemura Stage Performer Invisible Powder!

You can apply the foundation anyway you like – fingers, sponge, brush… but my favorite method would be with the accompanying brush it as released with, the Petal 55 Foundation Brush!

The Petal 55 Foundation Brush ($80 SGD) is really, the best companion for this liquid foundation – or practically any liquid foundation for that matter. The bristles are densely packed, and the broad application area means that you can blend foundation really quickly without the brush absorbing too much of it, or before the foundation dries up.

The multi-faceted handle of the Petal 55 Foundation Brush was designed such that it doesn’t touch any surface, thus retaining hygiene AND also, the ergonomic makes it easier to grip while applying foundation, even at the contours of your face!

I literally only needed ONE (full) pump of foundation for my entire face. I find that I use so little product with this brush that I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll even finish this bottle of foundation by its expiry date! The brush also provides a little massaging sensory experience – it is sometimes quite therapeutic to use it in the morning.

It is however, easy to go too hard and tugs a little at your face if you exert too much strength while using it.  Or maybe it’s because I was using it post-face threads that made me feel like I needed to go easy with the brush, as it was a little more sensitive to the brush strokes (i.e., I couldn’t brush downwards). I found that this was the best way to apply the foundation:

Annnnnddd are you ready for the before-after?

Before: With dark eye circles, sallow skin, and pimple-ridden chin/cheek *yikes*

Before: With dark eye circles, sallow skin, and PIH (post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation) on my cheeks *yikes*

After: largely concealed, skin tone evened out, with a natural, soft matte finish

After: largely concealed, skin tone evened out, with a natural, soft matte finish (before lip color went on oops)

I mainly wore this foundation while I was in Korea, and it stayed on so well despite the super cold 12-8 degree temperature!

I kept using this foundation over and over again when I came back to Singapore, because it was just so easy to apply.

Here’s another before-after for you!

Before: reddish skin & a pimple on my chin! argh

Before: redness around my nose, PIH & a pimple on my chin! argh

Foundation on the left side of my face only: Instantly brighter, and much more even - redness is gone, but not unnaturally light skin (my arms are darker due to the lighting in my room)

After: Shu Uemura Petal Skin Foundation on the left side of my face only: redness on my face neutralized and instantly brighter, much more even complexion, but not unnaturally light skin (my arms are darker due to the lighting in my room)

And because I’ve had so many good skin days with this foundation, here’s another selfie, this time with their Supreme Matte Lipstick which I really really like! I love dabbing it on my lips with my finger, and the good thing about matte lipstick is… I use it as a blush too! Here’s a link to Pony’s video on her favorite Rouge Unlimited Supreme Matte colors *heart eyes* she makes every color look so good!

Hi Jingling! I did my brows at DaintyBeaute, with Bernice! ;) It’s eyebrow embroidery and you get a special discount if you quote my name – call to enquire about the prices, it’s pretty reasonable – the only thing is that it’s located at west coast plaza!
